Chapter 22

It was already late at night and we still hadn't heard from them. Some of the women from the pack shifted a few times an hour to see if they were making any contact, but no, nothing.

All the women who were mated to men in the pack waited anxiously, some by doors, some by windows, some by phones and some in wolf-forms. It wasn't like they were going to die. Because they weren't. I wasn't going to wait in vain for someone to die. No, I had to go.

I went upstairs in my room, knowing that everyone were too distracted to know what I was doing. I just hoped Arianna wouldn't that I was gone until long but with her, you never knew. I put on clean clothes and packed a bag with another set of clean clothes and shoes. I opened my window and looking down – my house had two “small storeys,” so it wasn't that long down – I took a deep breath, trusted my werewolf strength and balance and jumped.

I shut my eyes, hearing a deep thud as my feet touched the ground. Just like a cat, I thought grinning for myself. Then I shifted as soon as I could, grabbed my bag in my mouth and with one last look at the house, I was off.

I ran as fast as I could, smelling my pack everywhere. I had to hurry so that I could catch up with their smell. So far so good, I felt it everywhere but eventually it would slowly go away and I couldn't risk that. I had to run my fastest non-stop.

While running, I noticed a difference. A smell, a presence. I wondered if I should stop or not and after a few seconds decided to stop. I had to know who it was or I could either be in big trouble or lead that person to my pack and get them in trouble with me.

I growled out loud, not in a bad way, just letting the werewolf know that I wanted him or her to come out. I had no time to just stand here and wait.

A wolf stepped out, the size of a female wolf and my brain immediately registered who it was. What the hell did Arianna come after me for? What the heck had she done? Gosh. Now I had another thing to worry about. As much as I loved her and would want nothing than her with me, I wasn't sure if she could handle the war we were going into. I knew I was, because I loved it and grew up like that but she had always been delicate even though she could fight very good. We had to know how to fight, whether we wanted it or not.

I growled once at her, letting her know it was stupid to follow me but there was nothing we could do now since we'd come so far and I knew she wasn't going back. She just gave me a wolfish grin and I sighed, nodding with my head once before starting to run again.

I smiled when she caught up with me and ran by my side. I could still feel my pack a little but it was slowly fading. I had to keep my nose alert all the time, I couldn't risk loosing them.

Suddenly, halting to a stop, both me and Arianna, we saw a quick flash of a werewolf some feet away. I immediately knew that it was from my pack and, thanking everything and everyone, I ran after with Arianna beside me. But we had to be quiet and careful; they couldn't know we were here.

Six hours later, somewhere really far away, we had finally really caught up with them. We kept ourselves a few feet behind and since they were so many, I don't think anyone noticed any difference or someone else. After all, we were all the same pack. Unless they felt that it was danger, they didn't stop. But sometimes you could feel the difference between a male and a female, but anyways.
