Chapter 5

The Best Friend’s Advice

 Clary's Point of View

After the meet and greet, Michael and I asked permission to his mom if we could hang around the mall, and of course Aunt Theresa agreed. Michael wore his blue jacket and put up his hoodie so he will not get ambushed by his fans while we’re having our “bonding” time.

“Hey Clary, why don’t we skate? Michael asked. “And I’m wearing a hoodie too so no one will see me.”

“Plus I perfectly remember that you know how, so you don’t have an excuse not to.” He added smiling.

“Uhh... I already forgot how, ever since you left I stopped skating.” I replied uncomfortably.

“Then let me teach you again, this time you’ll never forget. He said.

“Okay then.” I answered reluctantly.

.

.

.

“Ahhhhh... Michael I can’t do this. I already forgot how to balance on ice.” I pleaded well more like begging. We are currently about to enter the skating rink and right now I feel like I want to take back what I said awhile ago.

“Come on Clary, you can do this. You did this when we were kids, you’re even feisty that time! And just like the old times, we will hold hands together.” He said assuring me.

His words made me calm down. Yes, when we were young we used to hold hands, but that was the first time Michael step foot on ice. Then I suddenly felt warm hands collide with mine, and I looked up to see that Michael is smiling down at our hands, holding.

“Are you ready?” He asked.

I just simply nodded. I carefully lay my foot on the ice and felt the feeling before when Michael and I first step foot on ice, together.

“See? You’re doing fine!” He exclaimed.

“Oh goodness! I still know how to balance on ice!” I half shouted then burst out laughing. Michael burst out laughing too.

After that, I finally felt that I can stand by myself and we started to play tag on ice.

“Hey Clary, let’s play tag!” Michael said.

“What? Are we kids?” I replied.

“We were, before.” He said as he started to skate away, smiling.

“Hey! That’s not fair! Okay fine... I’m gonna catch you!”

I started to go after him and I’m surprised that I can skate fast.

“Hey wait” He said, fake catching his breath.

“Wow, you’re one fast skater. Maybe you should join speed skating.” He added laughing.

“Nah.. I’m just gonna scare off the contestants.” I replied laughing as well.

“Who would get scared of you? With that cute face of yours.” He said pinching my cold cheeks.

“Me? Cute? HAHAHAHA.” I said swatting his hands.

“I don’t think so. Cute means short and ugly.” I added. Yeah that’s what they said and when I tell other people they’re cute... Hahahaha. Wow I’m so evil.

“Hmmm... If that’s the case then you’re beautiful.” He said seriously, facing me.

“Wow, nice joke.” I replied and he shot me a look saying he wasn’t kidding.

“Michael?”

“Hmm?”

“I need some advice.”  I said with my famous serious look.

After hours in the rink, we finally got out. We went to this ice cream parlor and we ordered. Of course being the gentleman Michael is, he insisted to pay for mine and I objected but in the end he won the argument. We found a table and sat down.

“So what were you saying awhile ago?” He asked.

“I need an advice on my current situation.” I answered.

“What situation? Tell me all about it. I’m all ears.”

See, this is what I love about Michael, he listens to all my rants about my problems, even though he is now a skating superstar. Seriously, I can't imagine my life without him but I understand that he has to go to pursue his career, that thought made me even more sad.

“My father wants me to live with him and his second family in Japan and continue my studies there.” I said dryly.

His eyes went wide for a second but then he just looked at me.

“I need your opinion on this. If I should take his offer or not. He left us then one day he would call saying he wants me back? Great.” I added.

He took a deep breath.

“In my opinion, I think you should take his offer. I mean, I’m not saying that you should just forget what happened in the past. It’s just that, you should give him a chance.” Michael answered thoughtfully.

“You’re even lucky you got to meet your father” He added with a sad smile.

We were silent for a minute, not that awkaward silence. I processed in my mind about what he said and he was right. I was lucky enough to have a father, a father who still cares about me, note the sarcasm.

“You know what Michael? If I could, I would give you the chance to meet your father instead of me, meeting mine.” I said truthfully. Yes, I would do that for him.

“You would do that for me?" Michael asked.

"Don’t be silly. But you can do something for me.” He quickly added smiling.

“What is it?” I asked curiously.

Just take that chance and don’t waste it. Do that for me.” He replied.

As soon as he said those words, I find myself hugging him. He seems startled with my reaction but gave in and hugged me back. Michael is always the one whom I seek advice to, he is good with words and knows how to make other people feel better. I am lucky indeed to have him.
