"Where is she?" Emma asks, sniffing.

"Room five eighty," I say, sitting in a lobby chair. Or should I say my lobby chair since my ass has been glued in this spot for the last two days. I haven't gone home once and frankly, I don't plan on it for awhile.

"Are you gonna come too?" Harlie asks.

I shake my head. "I've seen her too many times, I can't anymore."

They nod. "We'll be right back."

I nestle into my chair as they walk down the hall.

"Cooper."

I look up. Mom.

"Hi," I say.

"Heyy," she says, sitting down beside me. "How are you?"

"Considering I haven't seen gray eyes in three days, not good."

She nods, looking at the ground. "You know how I feel about yo-"

"-you and Alex, yeah, I fucking know."

"..I'm willing to move past it."

"Aren't you always?" I sarcastically say, curling up in the chair and closing my eyes.

"Have you gone home yet?"

"No," I say, eyes still closed.

"Cooper, you need to go home and clean yourself up, you look a mess."

I look at her. "I AM NOT FUCKING LEAVING UNTIL MY MARSHMALLOW IS READY TO LEAVE WITH ME. I DO NOT FUCKING CARE WHAT YOU WANT, MOM, I DO NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK, OR WHAT YOU HAVE TO FUCKING SAY ABOUT THE MATTER. I LOVE ALEX, I'VE ALWAYS LOVED ALEX, I ALWAYS WILL LOVE ALEX AND YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT."

"Ok."

"Yeah, now go, I wanna be alone."

"No."

"Yes, mom! You don't care anyways, please just leave me alone."

"You may not think I care, but I do. Soo much."

"You have a fucking ridiculous way of showing it."

"I don't like homosexuals."

"I've noticed."

"I bet you have."

"Yeah, ok, bye."

"I love you, Cooper, you're still my daughter. And I'm not gonna leave you here, right when you need someone most."

"Harlie and Emma are here."

"I don't care."

"I don't either. BYE."

She glances towards the hall Alex's door is and then stands, walking away.

I sigh and slump back in the chair.

"She looks so pale," I say, stroking her face.

Nothing but silence fills the room.

"What if she doesn't make it?" I ask after about five minutes.

Valerie sighs and sits down beside me in a chair. "That's the thing about being a nurse. The loved ones of patients are always asking that exact same question. You never actually know. Things could go wrong, things could go right. As cliche as it sounds, you just have to hope for the best..and for your sake, I'm gonna hope really hard."

What if she isn't ok?

What if..what if I leave this hospital sometime in the near future..without her?
