*First time writing. Kind of nervous, but would love to hear your feedbacks and what you think. This first chapter is just a little insight on Maya's life nothing major. And its a little short. I hope you ENJOY!*

Maya's POV:

I woke up the morning after coming home from New York and was greeted by the delicious smell of bacon. Smiling to myself, I stretched out my tired muscles and headed for the bathroom. It was an amazing summer and one I truly enjoyed.

I had time to catch up with my cousin Taylor. I haven't seen Taylor since I was two- 15 years without seeing my cousin. But I have to admit, my family isn't all that close. So when Taylor had somehow gotten in contact with me, I was more than happy to spend the summer with her in The Big Apple. Since I've never once been there before, it made it even better.

Now finally back in Houston, I just wish I could have stayed longer in NYC. In just one week, I will be heading back to Blake High. It’s my senior year and I couldn't be anymore happy. Turning the water on, I quickly brushed my teeth and hurried downstairs to the mouth-watering aroma.

With her long brown locks flowing down her back, my mother stood over the stove making breakfast. "Hey Bree," I said smiling, as she turned halfway around a smile spreading across her face.

"Hey sweetie, well rested I see."

My mother just happens to be my best friend, being glued to the hip since birth, our relationship is pretty strong. Having raised two kids all on her own, Briana Smith is one strong woman and I'm really proud to call her my mom.

"Yeah you can say that," I said taking a seat at the table.

I heard a door slam shut and turned around to see my older brother walking in the kitchen with a phone to his ear. He kissed my cheek before doing the same to our mom.

He then took a seat across from me and poured himself some orange juice, with a worried look on his face. Seems like he wasn't having a good morning. I waited until he hung up to greet him.

"Hello, Richard, dear old brother. How's your morning so far?" I said, giving him a big smile.

He blew out a breath and glanced at me. "Morning kid. Not so good, I got to go down to the shop."

"What’s wrong with the shop?" My mom asked walking over to the table.

"Tanner just called, saying someone broke in," he replied, eyes glued to the phone.

My mom gasped and almost dropped the skillet she had in her hand.

"Was anything stolen?" I asked taking it from her hand.

The shop was my brother’s pride and joy. Since the owner, Robert, retired he handed it over to Richard. Richard had worked for him since he was 16 and seemed to love it there. Rob thought Richard would take care of the place better than anyone else, so he gave him the store. A man who had a lot of faith in my brother.

"No, nothing was stolen, which is strange. I'm not sure why they would break in and just leave with nothing," he said, clearly deep in thought.

"Did he call the cops, just to make sure everything was in place?" Mom asked.

By the look on her face she was freaking out in that little head of hers. She was always quick to worry even over the smallest things.

"Yeah the cops said everything was all there."

Well this day is turning out to be just wonderful.

"Okay sweetie why don't you go up there right now," My mom said, slipping some eggs on the plate already in front of me. Richard stood up and kissed her cheek once more before giving her a small smile.
