Chapter five

"Hey, are you okay?" the boy asked, then grunted as he bent down to help me up since I had missed my bed and fell onto the floor - which hurt, a lot. "Who are you, anyway?"

"I'm your roommate's girlfriend," I blurted as soon as it came to mind.

"I have a roommate?" he said, his eyebrows furrowing. "Huh. Something new every day. What are you doing here though?" he asked, a frown on his face as he looked over me, making me want to squirm under his piercing gaze. "And what's your name?"

"Ah..." Think, think! My mind shouted at me. I couldn't call myself Taylor, or he'll connect me to the roommate!

"I never knew my charm left people speechless," he said, his eyebrow raising. "Better yet, my roommate's girlfriend." I opened my mouth then closed it again, why was I speechless? Nothing came to mind for me to say to him! "Did you hit your head or something?"

"Taylor," I said, shaking my head.

"What?" He frowned and knelt in front of me as I sat down on the bed. "Do you need to go to the nurse’s office?"

"Yes!" I shot up, making him fall backwards. "I need to go to the nurse. Excuse me," I said, squeezing past him and running out the room. I ran all the way to Jason's office, not slowing down in case someone caught me.

I knew Jason wouldn't be in his office, but in the block just behind, the one he was staying in just in case something happened during the night that made him needed - where the headmaster and another teacher stayed during the term time. I shoved open the door and ran down the corridor to his room.

"Jason?" I called as I knocked on the door, hoping he would open up when he knew it was me. "Jason!"

"Taylor." Jason grabbed my frantically knocking hand. "What's wrong?" he asked, his eyes shining in concern. "Did someone hurt you?"

"No." I breathed out. "Can I come in? Anyone can walk past."

"Sure, come in," he said, pushing open his door and letting me come inside. "What happened, Taylor?"

"My roommate came home."

"Shea actually came home?" he asked, looking at me in surprise. "Where's your wig?"

"That's my point. I wasn't wearing the wig! I had to say I was his roommate’s girlfriend. But then I didn't know whether to tell him my real name, so I panicked and didn't say anything; which made him think he made me speechless!"

Jason snorted. "Sounds like Shea; he does have a large ego."

"Aren't you slightly worried that he will connect the dots?" I asked him, sitting down on the edge of his bed.

"How will he connect the dots when he can't even be bothered to go to class?" he asked, raising his eyebrow and sitting on the armchair in the corner of his room. "He'll probably just believe your lie."

"Do you think so?" He nodded. "Okay. One problem."

"What is it?" he asked, getting up and sitting down against his headboard.

I turned and looked up at him. "My wig is still in the room; I can't go and get it without him thinking something is up. And I won't be able to sleep there..."

"You can stay here and I'll get your wig tomorrow morning, how about that?"

"Thank you, Jas." He smiled and chucked a pillow at me. "What was that for?"
