Confidence–

It’s when you know you’re making sense,

And someone out there understands,

And you got to that point with no one holding your hand.

Common Sense–

It’s knowing you can’t fit inside the box, so why pretend?

It doesn’t matter what society demands,

We can’t all like the same brands.

Pretend–

Act like you can’t live without your friends,

Then turn your back on them because of some man,

Then dump him because he’s not tan.

Friends–

They’re supposed to be the solid ground on which you depend,

Instead, they are solid as shifting sands,

They may delight in cutting you down where you stand.

Depend–

It’s the people who won’t break and won’t bend,

They always snap back, like a rubber band,

They’re always a strong base on which you can land.

Moral: If you have confidence

And common sense,

Don’t pretend

To be friends

With people on whom you can’t depend.
