Chapter 5: The Great Hall

I stepped inside cautiously and gasped in unison with the other first years when we stepped into The Great Hall. There were magnificent four long tables that had children sitting on each side wearing black robes and different coloured logos that represented their houses.

The first house was Foxerin. Their logo was green with a ginger fox smirking evilly in the middle; I found Alisya Siren sitting at the Foxerin table on that strange emo boys lap. The second house was Eagleclaw which had a blue logo with a wise looking eagle perched on a tree in the logo; I found Greis Siren giggling with her friends there, chewing on celery and smacking on lipgloss.

So, the twins weren't even in the same house? Weird. The third house was the famous Tigerdor which had a red logo with a proud and brave looking lion on it. Last but not least was Llamapuff. Their logo was yellow with a ditzy looking llama on it. I couldn't help but giggle.

I glanced at the high table which was full of Professors munching on their food when I saw him. My dad. He had sparkly green eyes, a cheeky smile, a browny/maroon suit, a bow tie and I noticed we shared the same brown hair.

'Welcome back students. Before we welcome the new first years by sorting them and stuffing ourselves, I need to stress a few points. Our caretaker Mr. Pumpernickle warns all students that the Monstrous Forest Of Monstrousities is out of bounds.

Any student found lurking around the premises will be punished.One more thing is that the 5th Floor is completely and utterly out of bounds unless you wish to be tortured or die a horrible, slow death.''

"Now we shall begin with the sorting." He said as Professor Pond brought a grubby, old stool and tank with wires and it was full of water and inside was a brain.Lots of the first years gasped including me,Henry and Talia.

"Now,when I call your name, you shall come and sit on the stool and I will plug you in the brain, Don't worry it wont harm you, the hat will then tell you which house you are in." Said Professor Pond.

Gillan's POV

"Gillan Astoria" said Professor Pond loudly and sternly as I gulped. Why do I have to be first? I have such horrible bad luck. I shakily walked up to the stage, sat on the stool and waited as Professor Pond attached the wires to me.

I chewed on my lip with wide eyes as the wires were attached to me and the brain started to speak in slow, deep voice.

'Hm... I see you have a soft side and a knack for helping people but you also like learning. It has to be... LLAMAPUFF!' roared the brain. I blew out a puff of breath that I had been holding in and speedwalked to the Llamapuff table in relief.

I smiled shyly as I realised that everyone was clapping for me. Except for the Foxerins ofcourse, they were evil. To make matters worse, Alisya was chewing on Droopy's green apple bubblegum and glaring at me at the same time. Not a nice sight.

Jamie's POV

"Jamie Brand" said Professor Pond as I stepped onto the stage with a brave grin on my freckly face. I plopped down onto the stool as Professor Pond wired me up to the talking brain.

As soon as I felt the cold wires on my temple the brain started to speak.

'Well, well, well Mr Brand. I remember the day when I sorted your father. He was such a mischevious little thing. I know what to do with you...

TIGERDOR!' the hat shouted as everyone cheered and I walked to my new house table with pride.

Matt's POV

"Matt Combe" read out Professor Pond. I smiled a little because I really wanted to be in Tigerdor like the rest of family. I don't want to break the tradition and I didn't want to upset my grandmother whom I live with.

Professor Pond attached the wires and I waited patiently because I didn't doubt myself at all. The brain started humming to itself, it was probably thinking or something. That's what brains do right?

'Ahh Mr. Combe... I see a great mind in you but I also see great loyalty and courage. Maybe Eagleclaw?' he suggested.

'Not Eagleclaw, not Eagleclaw.' I repeated in my head, my eyed tightly shut.

'Not Eagleclaw eh? Then it'll have to be TIGERDOR!' he roared and I grinned brighter than the moon as I sat down next to my best mate Jamie.

Talia's POV

"Natalia Grambell" Professor Pond said. I raced up to the front and sat on the grubby looking stool. I was really excited and I don't mind what I would be in but I seriously do not want to be in Foxerin with all the nasty people.

Professor Pond attached the wires while everyone waited as many beady eyes stared at me from down below.

A strange voice in my head spoke 'Goodevening Miss Grambell. I see you have a very strong mind. Well isn't this easy... EAGLECLAW!'

Everyone clapped as I sat down at the table with a beaming smile on my face.

Henry's POV

More people came ............Greg..........Hape.......Irenberry.... Krum.........Montana......Oliver..........Pating... sagir......... (A/N These names are the surnames) until......

"Henry Wood" said Professor Pond.I strode to the front and sat down on the grubby looking stool.

The rest of the school and I waited until Professor Pond finished attaching the wires.

When she finished, I heard a deep voice talk to me saying 'Ahh, Mr. Wood! You will be great in the future and I know the exact house that will help you achieve that. It has to be... EAGLECLAW!

I grinned in relief and dumped myself next to Talia. Phew.

Nadja's POV

When Henry's turn was over I was the only person left. I sighed as Professor Pond called out' Nadja Who!'

Then suddenly, random students started to whisper and murmur among themselves about me.

'OMG, Is that really her?'

'Thought she was just a story.'

'I'm totally gonna stalk her.'

'It could be an imposter! We have to tell the Professor.'

'Eww she looks weird.'

I flipped them off and sat on the stool, glad it didn't break. Looks old. Then the brain started to talk.

"What shall I put you in? Hmm... you seem clever and quite friendly but you have the feeling to have an adventure but I see that the new friends you have made will help you in life so it's going to have to be... EAGLECLAW!'

Then random shouts came from my new house table saying 'WE GOT WHO! WE GOT WHO!' over and over again.

I sat down next to Talia and Henry.I looked up at the teachers and saw my dad smiling at me. Just before we started to eat, my dad introduced all of the teachers.

When he finished, I looked up and saw that the tale was full of delicious food.There was lamb chops, chicken wings, chicken nuggets, fish pie, fish fingers, chips, salad, sweetcorn, potatoes, a pot full of gravy, lots of ketchup and some mayonnaise.

For desert there was eclairs, star shaped biscuits, cheesecake, jam tart, lemon drizzle cake, choc chip muffins, strawberry souffle, different flavours of sorbet, multi flavoured ice - cream and jelly.

Don't get me wrong, Nev always gave me food but this was heaven!

When I finished eating, me, Henry and Talia went with Henry's sister Englandja to our new common room because she was our Eagleclaw Prefect.

She showed Henry the boys dorms and showed us our dorms and where we would be sleeping. We slept on a four poster beds and we were sharing with three other first years. They were Kristen Montana, Mellisa Irenberry and Sarah Thriskens.

They were very clever and they were very friendly with me and Talia.Also I was very pleased when Mel said that my hair looked cool. I changed out of my clothes and into my pyjamas.

I was so exhausted so, I went to bed early.
