Recap:

She peeked at the others in the room and saw their wide eyed surprised faces and became a little concerned.

“What?”

Ariel’s jaw was hung open a little, Chris and Evelyn both had disbelief written on their faces. Even Nolan seemed a little disturbed.

“Seriously, what is it?”

Ariel looked between Emily and the now vacant doorway as if trying to find a hidden clue.

“You…Law…no…wha-?” Evelyn mumbled.

Looking at these people and their reaction to Law, Emily felt her now dull headache come back in full force. She groaned. I really should have just stayed in bed today.

Chapter 6

Emily sighed while rubbing her temples. People are so confusing. “Ok, what is it?”

Ariel finally stopped swiveling her eyes between the now empty doorway and Emily and asked in a mildly incredulous voice “how on earth did you get to be friends with Law?”

Emily raised her right brow, an ability many found envious when they could actually see her face. “I don’t think we are all that friendly. I mean, we just met yesterday when he helped me. That’s all…why are you looking at me like that?”

"He helped you? The Law Adams actually helped you with something?” Chris’s voice floated over to her with a worried undertone.

Emily was starting to become concerned, the half eaten sandwich now getting squashed between her increasingly tense fingers. What on earth is their problem with Law?

“Look Emily, we’ve personally known Law for a long time and we’ve never seen him be so friendly with anyone outside his family or his close group of friends. Sure, he associates with many people, but that’s all he does. Associate. And tolerate. To make it short, he’s cold to everyone he’s not close to,” said Evelyn.

Emily’s brow furrowed in confusion. She never got such a vibe from that man. “Just how long have you guys known him?”

This time Ariel answered her. “Since grade school and that’s because Nolan and Law’s fathers are brothers.”

Emily’s jaw dropped as she turned to look at Nolan in his entire lanky frame, mousy brown haired glory.

Nolan’s thin lips pursed as he snapped at her. “I know I’m not as pretty as Law but you don’t have to stare at me like that.”

“What are you talking about?” Emily asked.

“I’m not that good looking, popular or athletic like Law. God knows people never stopped long enough to remind me that all my life,” Nolan said bitterly, his eyes narrowed as he glared at the empty space above Emily’s head.

She furrowed her brows and for the first time actually took the time to study Nolan. She was surprised with what she saw. At first glance, Nolan seemed plain but definitely not ugly in any way or form. His front two teeth were slightly large for his thin mouth but he had a sharp Patrician nose that many would pay money to have and high cheek bones. He was not conventionally handsome but he had eyes that Emily could see women sighing over. They were a stormy blue that seemed to glint silver whenever light shone on them. No, Nolan was no Adonis but he had a face that could charm.
