Nion's eyes often made Surge think of the ocean. Dark, watery, with an unfathomable depth, deeper than any man could ever hope to venture. He was filled was just as many unnamable, not yet discovered things. Not all things ugly. But, not all things beautiful, either. He harbored so much pain over the years--loss, abandonment, loneliness. But, he held just as much good, too.

Without all the things that had hurt Nion over the years, Surge doubted he would be sitting with him, here, today. Surge was sure Nion wouldn't have even looked his way. Because, Nion would have been whole. And Surge would have still been empty, with nothing to offer the raven but a life of misery instead of comfort.

He was sad for the things that hurt Nion. He hated that his boyfriend had suffered so much over the years. But, he was also somewhat relieved. And, for that, he resented himself.

"What are you thinking about?" Nion's careful fingers stood still in his hair. Surge cast his eyes away.

"Why?"

Nion frowned. "You had that look."

Surge shook his head, smiling a bit as he leaned closer, close enough to where he could feel Nion's breath on his face, close enough where he could taste the skin just under Nion's chin and the tiny, barely visible stubble. "Nothing. You're beautiful, Nion."
