Time Ticking

"Oh Fiona!" Kendall's mom exclaimed before pulling me into a squeezing hug.

"I'm so glad you guys made it," I said in the hug. It was 7 in the morning. I had just gotten there in my ugly sweatpants, messy hair bun/ponytail, and no makeup. My v-neck tight t-shirt clung to my body as she held on. Her perfume suffocated me.

They had flown it at 3. Meaning they should've gotten here around 4:30. We all hadn't gotten any sleep. Liam was sitting in the corner of the waiting room, looking exhausted. Kendall's dad was staring at the floor from his chair. He looked almost dead.

"What are the doctors saying?" I asked, hoping they'd give me a little bit more information. I hated the hospital nurses. They kept crucial information from everyone.

"She's in some critical conditons...She'll go into surgery in a little bit," She explained. I saw the hopelessness in her eyes.

I nodded. Liam got up from his spot and walked over to us. "I'm Liam, a friend of your daughter's," He introduced, shaking her hand firmly.

"We-were you the one who...almost killed my daughter?" She stuttered to Liam in a small voice.

"No, no miss...I'm just a friend," He reassured.

All of the sudden, my phone buzzed. I was happy to leave the awkward situation and silence. She seemed paranoid.

I walked into the almost bare hallway. A few nurses and doctors walked around with clip boards. Everything was almost silent other than the small murmer of talking, random coughing, and occasional phone rings.

"Hello?" I asked into the phone, not bothering to check the caller ID.

"Is Niall okay?" Harry's voice filled my ear. He sounded frantic.

"Good morning to you too," I said sarcastically.

"Is Niall okay?" He repeated in the same tone, avoiding my smart-ass comment.

"He just has some damaged ribs, he should be out next week and healed in a few months," I explained.

"Thanks," He said before the line went dead.

"The hell.." I mumbled before I redialed.

It rang twice before his voice was back on the line. "Yes?"

"Is everything alright?" I asked, quite worried about why he was calling me so desolate and jumpy.

Harry sighed and replied, "Yes, management just wanted to know. They're coming in the hospital to talk with us and the rest of the boys."

"Are you in trouble?" I asked, more worried than before.

"It could be a possibility, but until then, we have to find out," He sighed. I felt bad for asking. He sounded so stressed.

After a pause I asked, "Are you coming here?"

"Mhm, on my way with the rest of the boys. Would you like us to pick you and Liam up a coffee?" Harry offered.

"Oh please babe? That'd be lovely," I pleaded.

He chuckled and said, "You bet. See you in a bit."

The phone went silent. I slid it back into my pocket and walked back to the waiting room.

I walked into Kendall's room after passing the waiting room. I didn't want to hear guilt and anger from anyone. And if Kendall wasn't going to make it, I was going to say my goodbye- in private.

Even though visiting hours weren't until 8, I didn't have time to wait. She was getting surgery in an hour and a half.

She laid limp, still hooked up to machines. I tried not to cry.
