The rain was a heavy down pour only interrupted by the occasional clap of thunder and bright flash of white light. I loved it. If only because in the rain, I didn't have to hide my tears. In the rain, it was okay to be sad and because every bad thing that had ever happened to me was in the freaking sunlight. The sun was a reminder of the continuous monotony of life, the cycle that continued to happen. When I got the call that both my parents had been killed in a plane crash, it was sunny. When my grandmother, who had been taking care of me and my little sister since our parents died, was diagnosed with altzimers and she was declared an unfit caretaker, there was not a cloud in the freaking sky. She was our last family except for my estranged aunt and her husband. And even though all of this happened 5-6 yrs. ago, you still see my point? I had absolutly no reason to like sunlight. That was partly the reason I was sitting on the front porch watching the rain, sobbing. Partly.

The door creaked open slowly behind me, I tensed as the footsteps came closer to me, "Sissy, why are you crying?" I visibly relaxed as I realized it was Ellie, my 11 year old sister.

"Its nothing Ellie, Come here", I sighed as she walked to the steps I was sitting on and snuggled into my side.

"You were crying though! I know somethings wrong because you never cry!" She looked up at me, her usually bright grey/green eyes that we shared sparkling with unshed tears.

"I'm sorry Ellie, I didn't mean to upset you", I said looking down at her, pulling her closer into my side. Seconds later she seemed to accept that as explanation and she smiled brightly before settling in to watch the rain with me. I took a deep breath, looking at our upper class neighborhood with the white picket fences. Most of the houses were two stories tall, made of grey or red brick, had perfectly manicured lawns and flowerbeds and the shutters painted a spotless, bright white. It looked almost perfect in the daylight, but right now, with the rain plastering all the flowers and the wind making the trees bend, it didn't look so perfect.

When we first arrived at my aunts house years ago, I had been completely awestruck by the uniformitty and put together-ness of it. My aunt had been so kind and caring to us, we were still very upset about our parents and grandmama, but Aunt Lilly helped us almost get over them. Aunt lilly was thirty-eight when she took us in and she had always wanted kids of her own, she made us feel safe and welcome.  Her husband seemed nice at first, even though he seemed to drink just a little much and was always screaming at us and aunt lily. Well, soon he started hitting us because according to him we had ruined his life and that we were spoiled little brats, and then one day, he pushed me through a second story window. I was in the hospital for two weeks with a broken arm, two broken ribs and I had to get stitches all over my body because I landed in a bouganviella. Uncle jim got more and more violent and wouldn't remember a thing when he woke up in the mornings.

A couple months after he pushed me out of the window, I had recently turned thirteen. They had gotten me a laptop for my birthday, so i was messing around on it, when uncle jim started pounding on my door,"Open the g**damn door you little b***h!"I just closed my laptop and crawled under the bed. A couple seconds later there was a loud thump and my door crashed open, sending splinters everywhere. "Where the h3ll did you go!" He stumbled around my room with a half empty bottle of jack daniels. Then he leaned down and looked under the bed, i whimpered and started to crawl out as fast as I could to defend myself, but he grabbed my ankles and pulled me out. I kicked and scratched at the white fluffy carpet, while he flipped me over with a look of lust in his eyes. He pulled up my t-shirt so I was only in my panties and slapped me so hard I saw stars."Shut up!Your just a g**damn wh0re!" He shouted as he unzipped his pants. I fought against him and kneed him in the balls, that earned me another slap on the other cheek.
