"Honey, Hurry up! We can't be late to your appointment again!" My mom yelled from downstairs.

"Yeah, Yeah whatever." I mumbled back. I made sure she couldn't hear me though, these appointments were very serious to her. I suppose they'd be serious to anyone though...

I'm Simon Crisis, 16 years of age... and I've got cystic fibrosis. Now, ther's usually two things that happen when I tell people that. They either look at me with a blank look on their face, because they don't know what that is, or they show pity and/or sympathy. I don't wan't pity or sympathy though. It's bad enough not having many friends due to missing school a lot, but people also don't know how to act around me. I'm over it though.

Most people don't know what cystic fibrosis is. It's basically a disease that causes mucus to build up in my lungs. How I got it? I'm not exactly sure, but my doctor said it's gentic so one of my great grandparents must've had it. It's pretty life threatening too. I've had at least two close calls with death. Which brings me to the appointment today. I quickly pulled on my shoes and slowly walked down the stairs. My mom almost always had a heart attack when I speed down the stairs. She's afraid it is too much for my lungs.

I got down stairs and hugged my mom and dad good morning. It was 9:00 on a tuesday morning and I was supposed to be heading to school today but last night my lungs starting having issues. It wasn't exactly an emergency so my parents decided to go to the hospital with me first thing in the morning instead of going to the emergency room last night.

"We packed the usual for you, son. And we got you a couple of dounuts and water for you to have in the car. You'll have to eat on the way since we're already almost late." My dad informed me. I nodded and headed to the kitchen to look for my dounuts and then headed back for my back. I carried a bag because usually when I end up at the hospital, I end up staying awhile. It's not much of a problem though. Besides the horrible hospital food, I get to take my laptop. I usually go on youtube with it. I can listen to music as loud as I want also. I've never had a roomate either, since cystic fibrosis patients usually get private rooms.

After getting my breakfast, my bag and driving for around 20 minutes, we arrived at the hospital. We live pretty close to the hospital, so if there ever was a problem my parents could get there easily. My dad carried my bag inside for me while I ate the last piece of my dounut. My mom walked quietly next to us. She never liked going to the hospital.Once we entered the hospital, the receptionist looked up from her paperwork.

"Ah! Mr. and Mrs. Crisis! How are? What can I help you with?" She asked. She was sort of a friend of ours. She helped my parents through a hard time when I was diagnosed at 8 years old, and we visited this hospital often enough that she remembered us well.

"Hello, Sarah." My mom greeted her. "Simon has been having issues again and we came for an appointment with Dr. Carnegie.

"Oh! I'll call him right away for you." She replied. She then turned to me. "I hope all is well for you, Simon." She said, then proceeded to call the doctor. She was an older woman, maybe around the age of 55? She was very kind to everyone though. She had the kind of personality that made you want to be kind back to her. I thanked her and followed my parents to the sitting area where we'd wait for Dr. Carnegie. It was a bit longer of a wait than usual, but not insanely long. Dr. Carnegie came up to us and greeted us a little out of breath.

"Hi Simon, Mr. and Mrs. Crisis. Follow me to room 65A." We quietly followed. I noticed my dad begin to play with his fingers. He usually did this when he was nervous. I held his hand to comfort him and he shot me a thankful smile. I know most teenagers won't hold their parents hands, but they were all I had. We got to the room and I was suprised to find it wasn't a private room, but a double room instead. I was a little afraid of sharing a room with someone I didn't know but i knew i'd have to live with it.

"So, Simon. How are things? Are you feeling worse than usual?" He asked.

"Yes." I replied. "Last night I found it a little hard to sleep because there was a lot of mucus build-up, More than usual." I said. "He had a coughing fit in his sleep." My dad added.

"Ok, well, Simon, I think we'll place you in the hospital for a couple of weeks and monitor you. As you can see, this is not a private room like our CF(cystic fibrosis) patients usually get. We've had a lot of patients come in recently. A lot more than usual anyways. There was a huge accident on one of the trains coming in at a nearby station. It also probably explains why i'm so out of breath. I've been running back and forth throughout the hospital all morning."" He explained.

"Your roomate sh-" He started to say. He was cut short by the opening of the door. In walked a guy about 15 or 16 years old. The hospital lights bounced of his shiny blond hair and made his beautiful green eyes gleam. He looked liked he walked right out of an abercrombie and fitch ad. I suddenly felt extremely insecure. He looked my way and I felt my whole face catch fire. I bet it was as bright as a tomato. Why? I don't know... maybe because I was feeling insecure? Dr.Carnegie resumed what he was saying.

"Simon, this is your roomate Damon. Damon, meet Simon, your new roomate." He introduced us. I stepped forward and held my hand out but he ignored it. I raised my eyebrows. What did I do now? Nothing. But I guess guys like that are always jerks. Sort of comes with the whole 'being good looking' thing, right? I dropped my hand and sat back down. There was a bit of an awkward silence as he walked over to his bed and flopped down on it.

"Well, we have to get going Simon, honey. Take care. We will be back to visit soon sweetie." My mom spoke up first and then came to give me a kiss on the cheek. My dad came over next and hugged me and ruffled my hair. He dropped my bag next to me. "Stay strong." he whispered. I smiled as they left. I sure loved my parents. After they left, It was just me, Damon and Dr. Carnegie left. He said he had to go to check on all of the other patients and left us alone.

An awkward silence filled the room.
