The sun was setting, and the sky was alight and the colour of roaring flames. I was at the edge of the pier, sitting on the largest rock furthest from land. Closing my eyes, I listened to the waves beat against the rocks.

"Amantes sunt amentes," I muttered to myself as cold water splashed against my bare feet. I smiled to myself, for now I knew just how true that statement was. Indeed, Lovers are lunatics, I thougth.

When I was born I was given the name Ellah Marie Keel. And when I was five my dad told me that being fearless and not getting too emotionally attached to anything or anyone was the only way I would never be afraid and never get hurt by anyone or anything. However my dad told me a lot of things when I was five; that Santa was real and that my mum wasn't the tooth fairy, and we all know how true those things are.

I went into my second year of school known to everyone solely as Ellah. I came out a year later known by a different name: The Hulk. It never bothered me, in fact, I was, in a weird was, quite flattered. I was the smart Bruce Banner, helping everyone in need, but by God if you got on the wrong side of me, hell would have been more pleasant.

Needless to say I had quite the temper, my moods as interchangeable as a switch.

By the time I was eleven I had somehow managed to acquire myself five 'BFF''s. Apparently deemed by the amount of time you spend with a person or group of people, which, in any case was far more time than was originally assumed.

Said 'BFF''s were:

Hanah Hüseyin, a quiet girl with dark hair and think circular rimmed glassed, who had an obscure need to read at least three book (if not more) at once. Hanah was also completely and utterly obsessed with Harry Potter, and would, if she was allowed, happily come into school every day dressed as one of the characters from the book.

Freya Bates, was loud, extremely loud for one so small (or vertically challenged which ever you prefer) and also had a severe case of hypochondria.

Andrea Holi Pakxnson, who along with having nothing better to talk about than herself, had by far one of the most irritating laughs on the planet.

Rose Adwodaaki, was a very passive and extremely intelligent girl, with dark hair, green eyes, fair skin and red lips she was the embodiment of Snow White. Alongside this she was actually one of the only people, that in my own friendship group, I would have even slightly considered a friend.

Lastly, there was Alison Neha Tender, a red headed Scottish studious girl who found more enjoyment in top marks and sticking to the rules than talking to any of our group. To be honest I was perfectly content with that, for having to spend a considerable amount of time with people that I only marginally preferred to the rest of my class was not exactly how I wanted to spend year seven.

Said 'BFF' group only lasted in its entirety until the end of year eight. In which Freya went in search of, and I quote "Cooler friends," and Andrea went in search of what can only be assumed to be someone who would actually listen to her ego inflating speeches.

The other three members of the 'BFF' group (a name of which, to me, seemed redundant considering one third of its members had lasted in the group for considerably less time than forever,) stayed with me, despite many attempts to place myself or them elsewhere.
