 Chapter 1. Eric

"Hey Alicia, so not cool!" Eric yelled.

"Well, maybe not to you but I got a kick out of it. Anyway it wasn't that bad." Alicia replies.

"You ditched me while I was in the bathroom!" he said.

"Which is not all that bad. It was hilarious."

"To you, i had to walk home because you had our bus money!"

This is Eric and Alicia. They are the twins who live at 442 W. Rutherford Lane with their parents. Eric is a sophmore with few friends and likes to keep to himself though he is fairly good looking. his hair is short and curly that takes on a light blond color. He is tall and lean, about six foot and one hundred and thirty pounds. Now Alicia on the other hand, is his complete opposite and looks nothing like Eric. She is the party girl on the block and is friends with everyone. Her hair is brown and goes down to her shoulders, with a strip of red dyed down the side. She is five foot five and can't weight more than one hundred pounds. Alicia is super nice and attractive and is involved in everything from bake sales to every sport their school offers. hard to beleive they are twins.

"It's only about a 12 block walk, and it was just a joke man. Chill alright?" says Alicia innocently.

"Oh fine, I guess it wasn't ALL that bad. it was kind of funny actually." says Eric smiling faintly.

"There you go! Loosen up a bit dude put down the books and pick up your guitar again." she picks up a guitar and tosses it to Eric.

"No, thats okay. i taught you to play so thats you now." he says.

"Come on, one song? i could never do it as well as you. just one song?" she pleads.

Eric sighs and grabs a pick off the table. he puts the strap over his shoulder and begins to play. Alicia recognizes it immediatly, it was the first song he taught her to play.

"Yay! i love this one." she said. It's September by Chris Daughtry.

Eric plays it never missing a note and keeping perfect pace. Its perfect, he plays until the song is over then just stands theres staring at the pick in his hands. Alicia begnins to clap.

"You see? Thats the real you, Eric the amazing guitar player who had tons of friends. People like him better." she says.

"i guess, well I have homework to do. When i'm done you wanna go get a soda at the diner?" he asks.

"Sure, I'm supposed to meet  Becca and Jake there at five anyway." she says.

"Okay cool." He says with a smile and heads to his room.

Once alone Eric tosses  his bag on the desk and plops onto his bed. He pulls out his phone and tries to text Madison. Madison is one of his only remaining friends at school. Except, she hasn't been in school for a week and hasn't answer her phone either. Eric is starting to get worried, he'd run by her house tonight and see whats up.

He went to his desk and pulled his Algebra I book out. He turned to page four hundred fifty seven and a piece of paper fluttered out. That was strange. Eric leaned down and picked it up off the floor, it said the woods.

He stared at it, it was typed and looked as though it had been ripped off of a bigger peice of paper. How had it gotten there? It would have to wait, homework had to be done and he had a huge geometry test tomorrow. He pocketed the note and went to work.

he kept on thinking of his little episode with Alicia and his old guitar. Recently Eric had for some reason separated himself from the world, even he didn't know why he just withdrew. He used to be a guitar player in a very popular school band, and had countless friends and admirers. Even all his teachers liked him, they still did but they were worried now. They called his parents and explained their concern, now they try to keep him out in the house to socialize. It was quite annoying really.

For some strange reason Eric like doing his homework, it made him feel accomplished whenever he finished a hard problem. It also made the time fly, because before he knew it  four thirty had come already. He had finished his homework and had been doodling for half an hour. That's another thing he was famous four at school, he was a sophomore version of Van Gough. Extremely talented artist and guitarist.

Anyway he got up to get his jacket and walked out the door to find Alicia listening to her ipod. he taps her on the shoulder she flinches and get up taking her ear buds out.

"Is it four thirty already?" she asks.

"Yup, now get up lazy butt we're going to the diner. I need a Mtn. Dew bad. Caffeine levels are on low." I say with a chuckle.

she laughs back and grabs her shoes. they walk out the door and into the chilly night air. The diner is only a few blocks from their house so they go there alot, especially when their parents are away on business trips like they are now. Eric and Alicia are left home alone for at least a week every month. Their parents are travel writers so they get around.

Anyway so they wak in the door and go to the counter where Lizzy is leaning against the bar. Lizzy is one of the waitresses here at the diner. She's in her late twenty's with brown curly hair, and stunning blye eyes. She's pretty cool, i mean occasionally she gives us a free soda and is pretty interesting to talk to. Though sometimes she talks way to much, ranting about her social life and what not.

"Hey Lizzy whats up?" says Alicia.

"Whats up kiddo? not much, not much. Working the graveyard shift tonight, and I see you brought Eric with you" Lizzy says with a smile.

He smiles back and says, "Hello Lizzy, can we get the usualy?" he say.

"Right to the point eh? Haven't changed a bit in the two weeks since I've seen you." she says and walks behind the counter.

"Not at all." he says.

He goes to sit by Alicia and her friends Jake and Becca. They exchange the casual hello's and how-are-you's. Those three talk while Eric kind of space's out into his own world. At least until Lizzy brings him a Mtn. Dew and he chugs it down, so much for sleep. He ordered another and stared out the diner window that took up the whole front of the shop. he looks around the diner and can tell something is different. Then he spots it.

"Hey Lizzy, whats the pegboard for?" he asks.

He face darkens, "Thats the missing persons list." she says.

he gets up to examine it, and his heart sinks. There is so many pictures but one sticks out above the rest. It's Madison, her face smiling and looking so familiar. one of the only people he trusted in this world. The person he's stayed up late talking on the phone with, taken walks through town with, and shared so many laughs. it makes him sad. There are so many other names among that list its depressing.

Eric can't take it anymore, he goes back to his seat and drinks his soda. he tries to think angry thoughts. That dosent work so he just tells Alicia he'll meet her at home and walks out the door before she can reply.

He needs time to think and wants to be alone for a while... he's going to lose himself in his writing like he does when he's sad.

he walks in the door at his house, grabs a notebook and pen then walks up the stairs and out a window on to the roof. He comes out here alot, and sometimes sleeps out here. Maybe I'll just stay here, and fall asleep...
