Can't you see Mother? (ManifestoPoem)

I look at you, waiting for you to stop.

Stop with your cruel words that cut me,

Cut me like the shard edge of a glistening dagger,

Making me bleed, not red blood, but sparkling clear tears.

Can you not see how your words of hatred tears me apart?

Can you not see how your unwillingness to accept makes me cower in fear?

Why is who I am so wrong to you?

Can you tell me that Mom?

You caught me holding her hand,

You grabbed me by the arm, yanking me away.

Away from the only person whose ever made me feel safe,

Feel loved in a world that's so tainted with hatred.

You caught me kissing her rose petal lips,

You smacked me across my mouth,

You shoved me to the ground and screamed,

I watched as she cried in fear for me.

Tell me why mother,

Tell me why being with her is so wrong?

When she has saved my life,

A life that you yourself have brought me so close to ending.

Can't you see Mother,

Can't you see that it is your hatred, not her love, that is hurting me?

Her love is so pure, Yours is so tainted with cruelty,

Her smile is so beautiful and real, Yours is crooked and fake

Can't you see Mother?

Stop talking, Just listen.

I am who I am mother.

I will love who I love mother.

Even if she is the same sex as me.

Dedicated to all LGBT community members who have dealt with the painful cruelty of their families refusal to accept them for who they are. Stay Strong.
