Cooking up a storm

The room smelt of milky coffee and freshly baked pastries. Jess stood in the kitchen her black apron hung gently from her body, covered in flour, as it often was when she was in a cooking mood. The timer rang out in the silent room. She removed the muffin pan and ran a butter knife around the sides of each individual muffin tin with an expert hand. Just minutes later she flipped the tray and turned out 24 perfect blueberry muffins, the sponge light and springy.
Jess sat them aside to cool to room temperature before icing them with intricate designs. As she finished the last cupcake with a flick of her wrist she stepped back and looked over her days handiwork.

Cakes, biscuits, slices, tarts and bread... She made them all. Most of the goods were iced and probably decorated with edible flowers or even cake toppers to suit any occasion.
Except the occasional whisking of ingredients or clangs of pots and pans, she was left with the beat of her heart to keep her company.
