 Freinds with Benefits- Keeping the Promise and Winning The Bet

The warm crackling fire soothed my cold feet and my wet hair fell across my face in dripping tendrils. I huddled the fluffy white doona closer to me and took another sip of my hot chocolate, letting the hot liquid warm my throat. I had been out feeding and rugging the horses and had been caught in the sudden storm, soaking me through and through, the rain had pelted down, falling down my face like tears.

Now I sat on the couch in front of the fire place with a hot chocolate in my hand, little marshmallows bobbing at the top and the smell of fresh food being cooked for dinner.

“Now Jade, you know our visitors will be here soon, don’t you want to go neaten up?” Mum called from the kitchen and I heard splattering as she tossed something in the stir fryer.

“No, I’m good right here” I say, not knowing a reason why I should be cleaning up just for some old friends.

Just as I spoke a knock was heard from the door and I stumble to get up but my dad bounces down the stairs, frowning at my sodden self as he passes by, before opening the door with a wide grin on his face.

“Come in! Come in!” my dad gestures around widely, opening the great wooden door and stepping aside. Just like a god, he stepped in, the rain and lightning at his back, his brown hair wet and soaked illuminating his deep green eyes. He glanced up at me, eyebrows raised curiously as he looked me up and down, I freeze as his eyes scrape up to meet my surprised gaze, I feel the sudden freak bubble up and I push it down, gulping the lump that has formed in my throat, he smirks at me.
