Chapter 2

“AHHH!” I fell off my skateboard, landing on my butt. I look around; it was almost like there was someone right next to me.

Help whom, God? I thought waiting for him to respond. “Who do I help?!” This time I said it out loud not caring if someone was watching me. When he didn’t answer, I let out a sigh and got up. I brushed myself off and started skating to school again. But unlike before I wasn’t enjoying the view, I was thinking.

I think back to what He said, “Help him”.

Well, that narrow’s it down, I think sarcastically. Okay, so I know it’s a guy, and I’m going to school so he must be at school, right? Well, that doesn’t really help either! It could be anyone; A student, a teacher, a janitor, anyone! And with what does he need help with? Most likely it’s something personal. What if he's stubborn and doesn’t want any help. Or maybe I’m the only one that can help him?

My brain starts to go into overdrive. I think of all the problems a male human can have. Family problems, school problems, work problems, problems with friends, financial problems? There are so many different types of situations. I let out another sigh. I know God wants to be all awesome and mysterious but come on! How am I supposed to know who it is?

Oh God, give me your eyes I plead. I want to see the things you see and feel the things you feel. I love helping people, even before I knew about Jesus. That feeling you get when you know you did something right. The sense of pride, joy, and accomplishment is like an addiction for me.

I get pulled away from my thoughts when I spot a big building, North Haven High School. Weird name if you ask me. The school itself wasn’t that big, but it wasn’t small either. I figured the school would be bigger like in the movies. Guess I should have known better than expect a huge school with cliques and so on.

I keep on skating until I get to the front of the school. I grab my cell to check the time. Monkey Poo! I have around ten minutes till school starts. I have to go to the office to get my schedule then find my locker, to get my books, and then get to my class without getting lost. Great! Just Great!

I huff before skating towards the front doors of the school. I could feel eyes on me and heard a few whispers. Are skateboards not allowed? No, that can’t be it, I asked Tom and he said it was fine. I look down at myself, and analysis my clothes. No rips, no stains, nothing showing that isn’t supposed to be.

I ignore my self-conscious and grab my skateboard. I walk up the stairs, still feeling people’s eyes burning holes through me. Can anyone say creepy? I walk inside, but it doesn’t get any better. People are still looking and whispering. I brush it off though and look for the front office, which was pretty easy to find…since it was in the front. Who would have guessed?

“Hello there,” the secretary says when I step into the room.

“Hi,” I smile to her. “I’m Melody Brooks, the new student.”

“Right." She looks through a the filing cabinet behind the desk and hands me a pale folder with my name written neatly on the side. "Your book are already in your locker. Everything you need is in that folder.”

“Thank you,” I say politely taking the folder from her.

I open up my folder when I walk into the hall, trying to ignore the people who are still staring at me. Not finding a map of the school in the folder I decide to ask for directions “Hey, can you please help me find my locker?” I asked a random girl walking in the hall.

“Yeah sure, let me just see that.” She grabs my folder and looks trough it. “Your locker is just down the hall, let’s go.” She motions me to follow her and I do. The halls looked like any high school hallways would. Filled with people. The floor was made up of a cream colored tiles and the lockers were painted dark green.
