My generation is the key to change.
We have created a world where we can do as we please, on the safety of our computers,
We have created a world where anybody is a push of a button away,
We have become intrinsically linked with the rest of the world.
If there is a shooting in America, we find out within ten, twenty minutes - news channels can take longer than that.
We are in a world where information is stored online,
Where you can find anybody by simply typing their name.
My generation have power.
We have the power to do great things,
We could create a world where hover buildings are the norm,
Where a cell phone is considered an ancient form of communication,
We could create a world where there is no need for paper,
Where cars are a thing of the past,
We could get rid of inequality.
But we have the power to do terrible things,
We could create a world, where there is no human interaction.
Where pollution blackened skies are normal.
We as a generation can create weapons so dangerous that the world would quake in fear.
We could create a world where nothing is allowed,
But my generation has a tool that is more scary, serious, and deadly than any.
My generation can destroy a person with a word,
We can become a faceless, nameless group of people clamouring for the impossible,
We can create a person so hate-filled, they are considered evil,
My generation can make or break somebody,
We can create a broken, hopeless person,
We can create multiple personalities for ourselves, and use these against people,
My generation can create a reality inside the safety of their own rooms, that can be a living hell for another person,
We can create a world where a simple stroke of keys, creates an anonymous bully.
It’s time for my generation to choose,
We need to choose, great or terrible,
Old or New,
Happy or Sad,
Dead or Alive,
The end or the beginning.
We have been handed the power,
We have been given the keys to the world,
We have to decide what we are going to do with it.
