Chapter 3

I slipped into my homeroom class just as the bell rang.  I was drenched in sweat and my hair was sticking to my forehead.  After my brief, yet unpleasant, encounter with Hunter, I sped off to my normal parking spot under the shade of a large tree and sprinted to my class.  I hated running, and I didn’t do it that often.  So when I did do it, I ended up dripping with sweat in the first two minutes.

I probably looked horrible.  My hair was probably frizzy, my eyeliner was most likely running down my cheeks, and my breath was coming out in short pants.  I looked like a tornado sucked me up, tossed me around and then spit me out.  I frowned at that thought.

“Ew, don’t frown.  It doesn’t suit you,” my best friend Amanda said.  I don’t know why I love this girl so much.  I guess when you’re best friends, you can say anything to each other, and she really did tell me anything.  She was brutally honest.

“Love you too,” I said teasingly.  She scrunched up her nose and stuck out her tongue in response.

“No seriously.  What happened to you?” I debated on whether or not I should tell her.  It wasn’t like I was trying to keep secrets from her or anything.  I just thought she shouldn’t have to worry about it.  After all, I made myself pretty clear with Hunter that I did not want to see his face again.

“It was about to rain, so I ran inside,” I lied smoothly.  Amanda turned her head to look out the window.  The sun was so bright and there wasn’t a cloud in sight.  I swear the sun started to twinkle even brighter when Amanda looked outside, almost like it was mocking me.  Amanda raised her eyebrow at me, obviously noticing my lie.

“Please, do us all a favor.” She paused, and I looked at her expectantly.  “Never, ever become a weather woman,” she pleaded.  We burst out laughing.  Instantly, all the heads in the classroom turned to look at us.  Amanda and I both pretended like we were choking on air and turned our laughter into a fit of coughs.  It was like we were sisters.  Creepy.

I felt someone slide into the seat next to me.  As I turned to see who it was, I felt a pair of lips peck mine.

“How’s the most beautiful girl in the world doing,” Chad asked me.  I rolled my eyes at him, even though my heart skipped a beat when he said that.

“Flattery won’t get you anywhere mister,” I responded, poking his stomach.  He flexed when my hand made contact, so I could feel his six pack underneath his shirt.  I blushed a scarlet red and tried to avoid eye contact, but his hand grabbed my face and held it still.

“I love it when you blush.” That only made my blush grow deeper.

“Oh, gross! Get a room, you two,” Amanda chided, ruining the moment.  Chad wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.  I gave him a pointed look then shoved him out of his seat.  He landed with a thud and turned to me with wide eyes.

“I love when you get rough with me,” he teased.

“You’re so weird,” I chided playfully.  The bell rang and I quickly gathered my belongings.

“You’re not going to help me up?” Chad asked, shock lacing his voice.

“I would, but I have to get to class.” He scrambled to his feet once he realized I was being serious.  I went to hug him, but he crossed his arms in front of his chest, feigning hurt.

“Trouble in paradise?” Amanda asked obnoxiously.

“I need to set you up with somebody so you’ll get off my back,” I told her.  She held up her hands in surrender then started backing away.  I turned back to Chad to see that he was staring at me intently.
