Two Birds on a wire
One tries to fly away and the other
Watches her close from that wire
He says he wants to as well but he is a liar

The two five year olds sat on the overcast hill. She sat on the rope swing, swinging her legs and humming a tune for the morning light. He leaned causally against the overhanging tree his breath mixing with the chilling breeze, puffs of small mist billowing from his mouth.
She lifted her hand up to the raising sun and clutched at it with her fist. A small smile curved her mouth upwards.
"Ya know, I've been thinking about something." She murmured.
The boy made a 'mm?' Sound and looked up at her nodding for her to continue talking.
"We could leave," she glanced at his, a her tiny smile growing slowly, "see what's beyond here."
He looked down at her and gave her his trademark hollow crap-eating smirk. "You bet, just... Not yet, really soon though."
She laughed lightly, ignorant to his hollow promise. "Stupid, that's what you always say."
"'Cause it's true. We will. Together. We'll be unstoppable."
"Promise?"
"I promise."

I'll believe it all
There's nothing I won't understand
I'll believe it all
I won't let go of your hand

The boy was now much leaner. His short form had became taller. His once close cut hair was slightly longer now.
She still wore the same over large sweater, you could now see her finger tips peeking out from the sleeves. Her shoulder length hair had grown into reaching her elbows.

The silence was much needed. The two best friends sat quietly, enjoying each others company.

He sat among the roots and she still sat on the swing the slight wind blowing he hair around her face. He shut his eyes lightly, that golden orange of the rising sun glowing through his eye lids.
"Hey," Her soft voice shocked him for a moment "you awake?"
Her grinned widely without opening her eyes, "yup."
They both were silent for a minute, basking in the fading light.

"Are you afraid?"

The sudden question spring from his mouth, surprising even him.
"Afraid of what?"
"What is out there." He flicked his hand at the beyond. At the unknown beyond their small hill.
"Nu uh, I think no one should be afraid of anything, it only holds you back from seeing the beauty of the world. Besides, I know your not afraid of anything."
"'Corse not, I was just wondering if you were!"
She giggled, "no way, 'Together. We'll be unstoppable' remember?"
He smiled at her openly, "I promise to protect you no matter what."
She couldn't help but sigh in relief, "shake on it." She extended her hand to him.
"To staying together." He grasped her hand firmly and nodded.
"Forever."

Two birds on a wire
One says come on
And the other says I'm tired
The sky's over cast and I'm sorry
One more or one less
No bodies worried

The hill still looked the same, but its occupants didn't. She now had her hair in a long ponytail. The sweater more or less fitted her.
The boy was lankier and taller than ever, his mess of hair was was at his jawline now and the back even longer, reaching the bottom of his neck.
They chatted avidly, both grinned and joked at each other's expense. The night flew over head, stars glimmering from the heavens. The moon glowed like the sun in inky sky.

The boy sat in the branches of the tree. His jacket was lying on the over grown roots. The girl sat ever vigilant on the swing, this time still, watching the glorious dawn that was flung across the sky like an oil painting as the night faded slowly away.
They talked and talked, about everything that came to mind, both felt as if this moment was something worthy for the gods to set in a forever loop. A moment of innocence that would be one of the few left to come.

The girl sighed contentedly, "I can't wait in till we can explore freely."
The boy grunted, " yeah."
"I mean, we could leave now right, crazy as it sounds, but we could. Grab our stuff and go."
"Right."
"We could make it. I'm sure we could. You could get a apprenticeship and I could study to get citizen points and get us into one of the Imperial sanctuaries."
"Cool."
"So why don't we leave? We could."
"We're just not ready. 'Sides I'm getting tired."

The girl nodded and began to swing her legs, back and forth. She began humming softly. The tune was melodic and soothing. A soft reminder that they were safe and not about to leave each other's side. The boy couldn't help but hum as well after the first chorus, catching on to the tune.
The winter wind swirled with the morning light. The sky was overcast with blankets of clouds cloaking the light and sun.
Snowflakes fell like fallen angles from the cloudy sky. They glimmered in the glow from the sun that shown through the clouds.

The boy looked up in wonder at the sparkling white dots and in spite of himself, smiled.
The girl released one of her hands from the worn rope of the swing and opened her palm to the sky. A flake drifted onto her outstretched hand and came to rest on her thumb.

She smiled softly, "don't worry, I'll wait for you."

I'll believe it all
There's nothing I won't understand
I'll believe it all
I wont let go of your hand

She had a hair cut. Her hair was now much shorter and the worn, decaying sweater now seemed a little to large. There were many rough, hand made stitches that kept the nostalgic cloth together. She seemed like she didn't want to let it go.
The boy still looked the same, apart from a clothing change and his even lankier height. He stood once more by the gnarled tree.
The girl only sighed and hummed the same tune from all those years ago. But he stayed silent and just listened to the soft melody, sitting down on the long grass. As the sun rose no other sound was heard. No words spoken.

They didn't have to be.
