The Girl and The Old Man

In a quiet little town there lived a girl, she stayed in a small little neighborhood in a little

cute house, she lived with her parents and with a little puppy. The girl was innocent and sweet,

always caring for others instead of her, the parents were so proud to have raised such a little

angel.

The girl always did her chores with no question or complaints, she went to a little school and

made alot of friends, the teachers along with the principal gave her a little award for being a

good girl in and out of school. Everyday the little girl would walk home as not to disturb her

parents from work, she would cook on her own, ate dinner alone, watch tv alone and wait for her

parents.

A few years ago, the little girl had a guardian, he was an Old man, the father of the little

girls mother. Along with her grandfather the little girl felt safe, he always cooked for her,

played games with her and picked her up from school and walk her home.

Because of the Old mans kindness she looked up to him as a role model, the old man was always nice

to others, to his neighbors and even to strangers he didn't know. The little girl would always

sleep early and the old man would read her a story. Now, that the old man is gone, the little girl

would wait til her parents would come home and read her stories.

One night, while waiting for her parents, she was reading a little story book near the window, she

would often glance out of the window and looked at the moon and stars and remember how her

grandfather would bring her to the park along with his old telescope and show her the beautiful

night sky.

That night, as she was looking at the moon from the window, she noticed under the lamp post a

person covered with sheets of clothing and kneeling down, the person was shaking from the cold and

tried to stand up but didn't have much energy, so the person had to rely on something so the

person tried to stand with the help of the lamp post.

After much effort he finally stood properly and walked slowly away. The girl felt like she

should've helped the poor fellow, minutes later her parents arrived, they did the usual greeting,

she said 'welcome home' and kissed them on the cheeks. After a while her mom brought her to bed

and was gonna read her a bed time story.

Before her mom could start reading the story, the little girl asked her mom if she noticed an old

homeless person at the road, her mom answered honestly, saying that there aren't many homeless

people in the town, and to be clear, there were 'no' homeless people not even in their

neighborhood. The little girl told her mom that she saw one not a few minutes after they arrived

from work, the mom was silent, as the little girl kept adding in more info and description of the

person, the mom closed her eyes and looked at the story book and said to the little girl that she

also saw the same person a few nights ago. The mom told the little girl that its just normal and

that in big cities there are alot of homeless people trying to live and survive.

The girl told her mom that she wanted to do something or anything just to help, the mom smiled and

told the little girl that she was such a good girl and that it was time to read the story. The

girl smiled and the mom started reading the story. The next day, while walking home, the little

girl saw the same person from last night, the person was staying at the park bench and didn't move

that much, the person was like a statue, sitting there lifeless. She couldn't help but stop and

look with much curiosity.

After a few minutes of standing there she finally remembered she had to do her chores at home so

she left in a hurry. After eating her dinner her parents arrived early from work, they did the

usual greeting of course. The little girl told her parents that she saw the same homeless person

from last night at the park, the little girl kept talking about how she should help the person and

look for ways on 'how' to help.

The parents looked at each other, both showed signs of worry and fear that was clear on their face

like it was just smacked or planted right there. The father was really protective and told her

daughter that she shouldn't go near to the person even if he or she was old, he told her that it

will be a difficult work and that she should concentrate more on her school.

The mom also added that there will be some other people in the town willing to help the person.

The little girl looked sad, she said 'okay' and in her heart she felt useless, unable to help just

one person. That night while her mom was reading her a bed time story, she was thinking of cooking

something for the homeless person when she isn't busy with school and chore.

After a few weeks, she didn't see the homeless person anywhere, her parents told her that the old

man was probably taken to a safe place where he/she can live even if it was temporary. Again, the

little girl was sad, not being able to help at all. The next night, while looking at the moon from

the window, she saw what she thought was the same homeless person walking slowly passing through

the same lamp post.

Her eyes widened and she smiled, she went to the kitchen and took whatever leftovers she had and

placed it in a small plastic tupperware and brought it with her. She ran outside but could no

longer find the homeless person in her neighborhood, she walked and walked and finally she saw the

homeless person in the park standing at the lamp post near a bench.

She had a big smile and ran towards the homeless person, the homeless person didn't seem to notice

her so she tried to tap the persons back and saying 'excuse me' and it did work. The homeless

person turned around and lifted the hood of the coat and other clothing that covered the face and

looked at the little girl, to the girls surprise, the homeless person wasn't old at all. The next

morning a body was found at the lake near the park, it was the little girl.
