No Escape

A poem I wrote recently in memory of my great-grandfather, whom I am told was never the same after returning from war. Thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

No Escape

War...

The hellish corpses, gouged through the eyeballs,

Tormented in misery.

The panic and madness picking at your minds,

Always and forever.

The blood-black tongues, the ravaged flesh of human cadavers,

That smother you in cursed memory.

No escape.

This is hell, an incomparable place for the helpless souls.

They walk these chasms of human squander,

Drooping from misery and tiredness.

The clatter of guns and missiles flying,

Wake their sleeping minds,

And block out the pain from countless murders.

The pain of war,

The horror of carnage.

No escape.
