The high school I attend is pretty good. They don't believe in detention and being marked down if your late for class as long as your a good student with sufficient grades. I have no problem with any of my classes except for gym.

Gym is such a bore.

Since I'm a junior, gym's optional. I take it because I get a credit for half a year of gym. Also, fitness is important. I prefer gym to sitting in the school library studying and doing work during my free time.

Today, I was jogging with my friend, Stacy, when she brought to my attention something rather unusual. Stacey's pretty cool. She's into poetry and art. She's what you could consider to be an art fanatic. She's the observative type; always watching and listening.

He has shaggy brown hair and wears a different pair of glasses every day. He looks a few years older then he is only because he acts older then he is. His style, too, is modern. He likes to update his look often.

"I think he's tutoring someone for English... Lucas has been watching us jog for the past ten minutes."

"Lucas as is Lucas Rile?" Why would he be watching us?

"Yeah. He's sitting with Mitchell and Chace on the bleachers. He's starting to creep me out." Slowly, we both stopped running to catch our breathes. As soon as I turned to look at him, he looked away. Definitely weird.

"What's his problem?" I softly asked, tightening my mask. Since today I had gym, I wore a thin, plain, black mask. I wear it whenever I exercise.

"I honestly don't know... I did hear a rumor that he has a crush on you."

"Maybe he does... I don't think we'd make a good couple. He's so moody and he always starts fights," I pointed out as I looked back at him. Again, he looked away. He does start a lot of fights. Last year he got into a brawl with one of the quarterbacks on my school's football team after he called Lucas pathetic and puny. Lucas beat him up so bad that he was in the hospital for two months. I feel so bad for him; he definitely has some anger issues. "Besides, I'm done with dating for the rest of the school year. You can thank Ryan."

"Ryan's an idiot. He doesn't know when to shut his mouth. Lucas' different. He's a good guy... He's just sensitive." Stacy said, wrapping her arm around mine.

"He's got issues, Stacy. I can even tell... He's been through stuff. He's a sad case."

"Tri, you don't even know him, yet you talk about him as though you know what's he's been through. If he likes you, he likes you. What are you going to do? Ignore him for the rest of high school? I think not." She definitely had a point about that. I can't just ignore him. That would be rude and childish. If he really does like me I'll just have to deal.

"True. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens." I commented before starting to jog again.

"I'm gonna use the bathroom." Stacy said as she walked away and off the track towards the school. I continued to jog by myself for another few minutes until I heard someone jogging behind me. Thinking it was Stacy, I looked over my right shoulder and was surprised to find Lucas jogging behind me.

Smiling lightly, he asked, "You mind if I jog with you?"

"Not at all." I added, quickly getting back to jogging. I paced myself to run a bit faster so I could run a lap in less then half a minute. I could hear Lucas huffing lightly as he tried to keep up with me. His friends watched him intently, laughing every time he sped to keep up.

"Jesus, you're fast. You on track?" He asked as he switched lanes.

"I used to be. I was thrown off the team."

"Why?"

"The coach didn't like me wearing a mask during practice so I was never allowed to race. He threw me off the team because I wouldn't take it off." I quickly explained as I continued to jog.

"You should have just taken it off." As soon as he said this, I stopped jogging and turned around.

"Well, I didn't." I then went right back to jogging. Lucas just stared at me oddly as I jogged my laps. What's his deal?

"What are you doing tomorrow after school?" He asked me as I passed him.

"I'm busy." I didn't have time anyways. I have a load of work due by the end of the week.

"Cancel your plans. Meet me in front of school tomorrow after the last bell."

"I'm busy." I repeated, jogging around him again.

"I don't care. If you don't show up you'll regret it."

"You blackmailing me?" I stopped running and walked a few steps closer to him.

"Maybe." As soon as he said this, I placed my hand on his shoulder.

"We're not in junior high anymore. Blackmailing will only get you arrested. Trust me, my dad's a cop." As soon as I told him this, a frown spread across his face.

Backing away, I walked towards the school giddily, replaying our whole conversation in my head. Definitely weird... But there was something about him that made me like him. His confidence, his ruggedness, was what attracted me.

I really need to watch out for him.

The people that lure you are always the ones who break your heart and make you miserable. Lucas is one of those people.
