Chapter One

The winds of the tornado swirled around me, whipping my hair into my eyes until I had to squint against it. The sharp pain in my back eased until it was just a throbbing along my spine. I closed my eyes, squeezing them tightly. I had to think of something else...

I didn't have it as badly as some of us. Some went through this whenever there was thunder or lightning, some every new moon. Some people had tsunamis, though. They were lucky ones. They barely went through it at all. But I had it every time a tornado came within 100 miles from me. We actually got quite a few in Pennsylvania, or maybeit just seemed like that because of this.

Soon the tornado had passed me by already and was travelling off in the other direction, gathering speed very quickly. Without looking behind m, I knew my Transformation was complete. I could feel it, sense it. I had the extra weight on my back, but I could also feel the very energy of it. Even before the milisecond when these thoughts flashed through my mind had passed, I was up into the air, my new wings allowing me to chase the tornado and do my job.

Luckily, the tornado hadn't gotten too far away, but in order to catch up to it, I had to move my wings in strong movements. I got to the top of the tornado and dived into the hole at the top. Inside I could see the strong winds whipping around eachother. If I didn't move fast, it wouldn't just be leaves and branches that I would be able to see: there would be innocnet people beind thrown around inside.

Following the direction of the winds so that I wouldn't damage my wings, I shot out of the twister, feeling the centrifugal force driving me out, and then dove down to the ground. I could see a remote house in the distance. The lights were on.

"Somebody's home..." I murmured.

It was always easier in the night, because I didn't have to worry too much about being seen. But I was always careful. Too many humans had reported UFO's because one of us hadn't been careful enough.

Taking a deep breath, I flew back into the winds and flew into the smallest part of the tornado at the very bottom. Here the winds were the strongest and I could feel the particles brushing my shoulders. Tensing every muscle in my body, I began to half walk, half fly, the other way that the twister was taking me. This is called the Reverse. Forcing the tornado the opposite way to the way it was formed weakens it enough to Unable it.

I could feel the winds slowing down around me, but my muscles were getting tired and I need as much energy as I could for the next stage, so, hoping that it was weak enough, I shot out of the tornado  and Summoned as much Force as I could...

An invisible energy resembling a heat wave, shot out from my hands and hit the exhausted twister square-on. The spiral became shorter and shorter until had disappeared. Then evening breeze was stronger than it was and it floated away into the night sky, nothing more than a speck of dust.

I, myself, floated down onto the ground, bracing myselft more the Reverse Transformation. Then I felt the strong feathers beginning to shorten, giving me a pins-and-needles feeling in my legs and arms. when they reached the spot where the wings connected to my back, I felt a sharp pang along my spine, and then I was being squashed. The force of a supernatural part of your body being combined with a human part it an indescribable experience that no creature, but the Angelics know about. When the pain had passed and the throbbing had passed and I could only feel a buzzing on my back, I lay in a crumpled ball in the ground, exhausted, but satisfied by my work.

On the street there was a public bathroom where I tidied myself up using the brush the make up and the baby wipes that I kept with me for cases like this. I waited at the bus stop for 3 minuets before the Express bus came. It was virtually empty at this time on a saturday night. There was a Thud and an emo couple at the back making out, an old ladysitting at the front asleep with a cd player playing classical music, and a buisiness man three, sitting seats behind the lady, trying to ignore all the noise the two at the back were making as he worked.

I plonked down behind the driver and made myself subtle. The business man left at the next stop after I had gotten on, trying to find somewhere quiet to work, the old lady had missed her stop and gotten of the get another bus and the driver had eventually thrown the couple off the bus when they started to take eacothers clothes off. I got of at the bus stop in the town by our house. My scooter was parked there as always.

I let my slef in the dark house and quietly went to my room on the top floor. Throwing off my shoes and my jacket and plonked down onto my bed still almost completely dressed. I fell asleep hoping that the next twister wouldn't come too soon.
