Prolonged

I haven't always been this way. I was happy, bubbly, outgoing and loud but that all changed one fateful day.

It was about a week after graduation of high school. Me and a bunch of others including one of my best friends Cindy were going to some cabin up on summit that our friend Ron's family owned. It was all good driving that is until they started to pull out the beers from the cooler and started to drink. It was about 8 at night and we had about another hour to go before we got to the cabin when it all happened so fast.

A deer ran out in front of the van, scaring everyone- especially Ron who was driving. He swerved causing the van to fall onto its side and then to fall down into a deep ditch on the side of the deserted road. I was sitting squashed in the middle with no seatbelt. Logically when not wearing a seatbelt the Sid person goes flying everywhere. And thats what happened to me. I had flown right through the windshield and onto the cold hard ground.

I could hear crying from a distance, screaming which by the sound of it was coming from Cindy and the last thing I heard was Ron calling my name; telling me to stay awake and not succumb to the darkness.

~a week later~

I woke up to blinding bright white lighting, the feeling of someone holding my hand and the distinguished dryness of my throat brought about by dehydration. Once fully awake and able to see clearly, I noticed it was my mother squeezing my hand, my father was sitting in the corner of the room in a large armchair. There was an annoying beeping; which I then realized was my heart monitor and a low hum that was the air conditioning. My mother was the first to notice my abrupt movement, and then alerted the doctors and nurses.

My father had then asked me how I was feeling which with I replied with an ok. I had discovered that everything from the waist up had a slit throb but below the waist I couldn't feel a thing. The doctors and nurses than choose that time to walk into the room to see how I doing.

Once assessed, relaxed and calmed I had learned the fate of myself and friends. My best girl Cindy suffered from head trauma and was induced into a coma, Ron was given at least 45 stitches to his leg and another dozen to his side due to a deep gash from the glass of the windshield. And I was the worst of them all.

That day I had discovered that I was officially paralyzed from the waist down.

That day I learned that for the rest of my life I would never walk again and would have to totally dependent on myself and others for help.

That day was officially the end of my life as I knew it.
