My alarm started ringing but I was already awake staring at the ceiling. I'd had the same dream again. I glanced at the time and saw it was 6:30am, I just didn't want to move. I couldn't sleep properly but that was nothing new, I often had sleepless nights. Last night I'd locked myself in my room until my mum was almost banging down the door to get me to come downstairs to do her 'favour'. It made me sick to my stomach knowing she was willing to just sell me off like that, like I was a piece of crap on the floor. I'm only fourteen yet she thought it was okay to do that? No matter how old I am, it wasn't right. I slowly got out of bed and sat down infront of my mirror, I looked at the dark circles I had under my eyes and sighed. I got up and went to have a shower, brush my teeth and I got ready for school. I sat infront of my mirror and ran my comb through my long curly black hair. I looked exactly like my mum apart from the fact she was cuban, I didn't really remember much about my dad. She burned every single picture of him and never mentioned him again and that's how everything started going downhill.

I tied my hair into a neat ponytail and put my earrings in, I packed my schoolbag and opened my bedroom door again. I went downstairs and there was another man's trainers there along with his jacket and jeans, it didn't take me two seconds to guess what he was doing here. My stomach turned at the smell of the smoke which was thick in the kitchen downstairs, I saw a middle aged white man standing in my kitchen smoking and he looked at me, slowly licking his lips. I swallowed hard and stepped backwards, my mum walked in the kitchen in her dressing gown.

'Nyla, didn't I ask you to do me a favour last night?' She asked.

'Mum, I'm not well.'

'You're able to get up and go to school but you couldn't just simply do as I ask?'

'I'm going to be late-'

'What the hell do you need school for? It doesn't take a lot to get money you know Nyla, I needed you last night-'

'Mum I'm fourteen you can't just sell me off-'

'I'm not selling you baby, you're doing me a favour.' I shook my head and walked past her, slamming my front door shut behind me I sighed. My eyes locked with his instantly and I started to get butterflies, I felt lightheaded as he looked back at me and continued speaking with his friends. From the way his faint moustache sat perfectly above his plump lips when they curved into a smirk, his muscular tall body showed through his clothes and his small afro was perfectly combed, no bumps, just jet black curls. His border around them and thick eyebrows on his brown skin, he licked his lips slowly and I watched him in awe. I smiled to myself and he smiled back at me, my whole body was instantly covered in pins and needles as I looked back. He was 16, an older boy and he looked so mature but then I saw Lacey, his girlfriend, chatting away whilst he looked back over at me.

'HIYA BABES!' She shouted across the road and waved at me frantically, I looked around and smiled weakly.

'Um, hey.' I said and gave a small wave back, I quickly walked out of my gate and my eyes met his once more. He smiled and I smiled back, his girlfriend leaned in to kiss him and my heart twinged slightly. He winked at her and I saw her fiddle with her hair, she was beautiful. Light brown curly hair to her mid-back, a pretty face which hardly needed make up, a curvy body that could easily catch people's eyes. I looked down at myself in my uniform and instantly felt disheartened, what would he ever see in me? I could never get someone like him, he was only my neighbour's boyfriend. I saw a group of boys at the end of the road waiting on bikes that looked like they were waiting for him and they looked over at me once I walked past. I knew one of them, Jonah. He was tall, looked like your typical hoodrat, he wasn't dark nor lightskinned, he was just in the middle and he always had girls chasing after him. He smiled briefly at me as I walked past and I smiled back.
