Chapter Six

What is it, Aiden? Hellllur? Spit it out, dammnit!

''Um, nothing. Nevermind,'' Aiden stuttered, while scratching the back of his head.

Really?

''Uh, alright, well we should go. James will be wondering where we are,'' I said, somewhat pissed that he just stopped mid-sentence and then said nevermind to cover it up.

With my head cocked to the side, I stared up at him while debating whether to blow his slip-up off or not. But then the phone rang. I pressed the "Aceept Call" button, and put it to my ear.

"Hey, Jamesy, yes, no, n-no, Mom said so! Oh, Okay. Alright! Okay, okay, fine. Goodbye! Bye."

I pressed the "End Call" button.

SO ANNOYING.

"Alright, so, since its about midnight and we have no car, I suggest we start walking home 'cause I'm pretty tired. " I said, in the middle of my yawn.

Aiden gave a smirk and said, "After you, Miss Casey."

 That was a stupid accent.

He must have seen the look I had on my face, because he laughed and reassured me that he wouldn't do it again. We were half-way home when I tripped over a small branch. I squealed as I hit the cold pavement in the park. I always used the park as a shortcut home, when I was way past curfew.

"Thanks," I mumbled.

Instead of getting up, I laid down and looked up at the tiny little stars in the sky. The full moon was covered by clouds, but it was still beautiful. Aiden laughed but laid down next to me. He took me around my waist and pulled me closer. I froze.

What's going on? One second he's my brother, the next he's my love interest? This shit's getting weird. Not that I'm complaining.

I slowly wrapped myself around him, putting my head on his chest, arm over his stomach, and leg over his leg. It was highly comfortable. He wrapped both arms around me, and drew little circles on my back.  After a while, I tried to get up. My legs felt like jelly. I groaned and Aiden just laughed.

Jerk.

I rested my head onto his chest again as he wrapped his arms around me and put his hands over mine. With interlaced fingers, I smiled into his chest.

I always get this warm, fuzzy feeling around him. Nothing out of the ordinary. But now it's weird, because he's responding to me like he gets the same feeling. Does he? Does he see me more than his sister? I'm almost positive my life is going to turn into one of those Nicholas Sparks books! Well, no offense to him, 'cause I'm a hopeless romantic. But come on, it's Aiden. Oh my gosh, I'm tired.

AIDEN POV

She is beautiful. I've known her forever, and I would have told her I liked her sooner, but after her dad passed, James became the Casey-nazi, and would flip out anytime a guy goes for her. So when we were seven, and I only thought that I had a semi- crush on Casey, I gave something to remind her that she had my heart.

Flashback

One day, me and James' friend, Michael, invited us to his birthday party at the bowling alley. Casey was dying to go, but Michael said girls had cooties. Casey cried for days after we got the invitation, and James just told her to "shush." I felt bad, and would always try to hug her and tell her it wasn't going to be fun. She would push me away each time. When we were at the bowling alley, I noticed that there was an arcade. I only had 2 quarters on me, and I had to decide what to play. Then I saw it. I put the quarters in, twisted the knob, and out came a necklace with a fake gold chain. There was also a little heart pendant on it, with a 3-D red heart in the middle. It was perfect! I was so nervous when we reached the house that I didn't get out of the car for ten minutes. When I got out, I went up to her. I held out my hand and put the necklace into hers. She gazed at the pendant and smiled that same amazing, award winning smile. And that was when I fell for Casey Carter.

Hell, I might even love her.

She moaned. When I looked down, she was sleeping. My heart just about melted.

Who knew that a person could become your whole world? And not even know it!

I picked her up bridal style and carried her back to the house.

She curled into my torso and smiled. I questioned it, but then let it go. Maybe she was dreaming.

She's too damn cute.

We reached home and I opened the door. James was sitting in the living room with a single lamp on. He was about to say something, but I "shushed" him.

"Let me put her to bed. I'll be down in five."

He nodded. I walked up the stairs, trying not to stir her. I opened the door to her room, turned on a lamp, and put her in the bed. I got her favorite pair of sweatpants and slipped them on her.  I couldn't find where she kept her tee shirts, so I put her in one of mine. Once I finished, I tucked her into bed. She curled into her blankets and sighed. I made sure she seemed comfortable, then turned the lamp off. I closed the door and went back downstairs.

"Hey, man, I'm real tired, so I'm gonna shower and get to bed. Later," I told James.

I didn't stick around to hear his response. I was fucking tired. Showered and changed, I jumped into bed.  Real men sleep in only boxers. My mind ran over the chain of events of the evening. My last thoughts were Casey Carter.
