From the youngest of years,
I remember tales
Of princes and princesses –
Where love could never fail.
We’d meet in a forest,
Your touch causing shivers,
And we’d dance along the bank
By the edge of the river.
Nothing could defeat the
Brightness of our light.
It was us against the world - you
Should have been my shining knight.
But that was then
This is now.
Surrounded by stone turrets
You are nowhere to be found.
The sun is sinking fast on
Those stories of ‘Once Upon…’
You are now just a shadow.
Your love for me is gone.
You did not slay the dragon,
Did not save me from my fears.
I’m told these things don’t happen -
Love fades with passing years.

My Once Upon A Knight...
PoetryAs much as we may like to entertain the thought, love isn't always like a fairytale. This is a poem about how the fabled Knight from those stories of 'Once Upon...' may not appear quite as shiny now as he did in our beloved childhood fantasies.
