"Stop hurting them, mommy!" I screamed as I struggled to pull my mother away.

The older boy yelled as she held a knife to his throat.

He was my friend, and she was hurting him. Anger consumed me, and I pushed her, my light touches burning her skin.

"How dare you!" she screamed.

Suddenly, I woke up to the warmth of my bed. I looked back to see Demetrius gone.

I tiptoed, playing the role of a secret spy, and searched for him, finding him on a call.

He was swearing a lot and sounded super annoyed.

"He knows!" he shouted.

Demi started pacing the room, anxiety evidently prickling his skin.

I walked up to him, grabbed his collar, and kissed him passionately.

He immediately ended the call, lifting me up and kissing me harder.

"Are you okay?" I mumbled.

"Fucking fine," he grumbled.

"Boyfriends aren't meant to lie to their girlfriends, are they?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Well, no, but it's complicated, my Valentina.

I can't force him to tell me, so I merely accept defeat.

The rest of the day continued as a blur, and Hanzo attempted—emphasis on 'attempted'—to teach me chess.

"Wait, what does that move mean again?" I asked.

"I give up," he groaned, and I pinched his arm.

We ended up laughing until I was interrupted by Demetrius, who placed his hand on my neck and kissed my cheek.

Jealousy seems to be his number one emotion.

Ever since he declared that we were romantically involved on that car ride, he has become even more jealous.

When Hanzo and I laugh, he has to be part of the conversation. I'm worried there are going to be negative consequences for his work since he is always with me.

What a fan.

As Demetrius and Hanzo spoke, I couldn't help but feel incomplete.

Everyone knew the truth, and I didn't know a single thing. I felt useless.

I turned on the TV, hoping to escape this cycle of overthinking and pleading for the memories to return.Glimpses of my past teased me throughout the evening and night, but during the day, I sensed nothing.

My leg bopped to the SpongeBob theme song, and I couldn't help but steal glances at Demetrius.

The way his charcoal hair sat so perfectly, those tattoos, and his smile.
