We were schoolkids once, we saw the years pass,

We saw the sun and moon, we saw God's hourglass,

Until that one faithful day, when adulthood is near,

When we see our dreams from oblivion, appear.

Before we reach the dock, and go our seperate ways,

A ritual awaits us, marking end of teenage days.

'Tis like Luna and Helios, with Aphrodite made a pact,

To change ways I look at fair maidens, making fantasy a fact.

Beauty coalesced with beam of sun and moon,

Reflected on their faces, I dare say, I swooned.

The girls who wear the same school clothes, from uniformity their face did glow,

On this day their body is theirs, their dresses have a little more to show.

And so from the evening to the night, from clouds to drizzling rain,

Here's how I fell in love, and out of it again.

In a mere 5 hours, a portal we did cross,

And drain our last bit of childhood, in joy, innocence we loss.

5:02pm (Setting Off)

I was waiting for them, a full hour before,

It felt like a lifetime, or maybe even more.

Girls into their rooms, and out came women that took their place,

With garments that changed their lines, and makeup that changed their face.

Bearing the weight of fake eyelashes, they charm with just a wink,

That's how I fell in love, with class alphas in a blink.

They grew over my head, the moment they stood on their heels,

When they stepped off the car, Changed the way I feel.

6:02pm (Arrival)

They were wobbling and whining, taking steps on their toes,

Learning how to walk again, up and down the lows,

The moment they touch the red carpet, they've mastered the art,

A newfound grace they had, beauty off the charts.

6:15 (Acquaintances)

The dazzling moment I stepped on board,

Boys wearing suits I could not afford,

And the girls that were single all the way,

Their white dresses of Athena, they look married today.

And so I went to socialize, with a drink in my hand,

Why I fell for them before, I finally understand,

I was very innocent, didn't think I was now,

But their beauty shown again, reminded me that was how.

The loud mouths of the class, whom I thought were hell-bound

For disturbing the peace, but their beauty muffled their sound,

The quiet one whom never talked, without a single a word of choice,

Her dress and her eyeshadow, gave her an angel's voice.

7:00 (Beginning)

The event is starting, I quickly hopped in,

A room of dry ice, and beauiful kin,

I fell in love with all girls, I didn't know who to choose,

Doesn't matter, the music kicked in, I fell out of love,

I finally let loose.

And the following day, nothing has changed,

Except for my eyes, that recognized something else,

The eyes of the prom queen, stayed as so,

With a grander tale to tell.

'Tis the compromise Aphrodite made,

Luna and Helios will watch over them,

Their light shall continue to shine,

On them, and reflected, into eyes of mine.
