——— The story that I am about to tell you had begun a long time ago, before two teenagers met working for an organization that they later betrayed by falling madly in love with each other and even before the infection that turned all humans into skin walkers spread over the world
Growing up, Hayden often wondered why bad things happened to good people, why do people who didn't really do anything bad get hurt?
To be completely honest, Hayden didn't consider herself all that good, and she thought that maybe the bad things that happened to her were because she really wasn't completely good.
She always had problems at home, she didn't have a very nice childhood, every time she came home from school either her father was drunk or trying to do something bad to her mother because he was drunk also.
Although her father rarely touched her, he only did so when Hayden wouldn't stop crying because of what she saw and heard, according to him it gave him headaches, but how would she know, she was just a little girl.
She always felt that her life was miserable but her mother always told her that there are people in the world who don't even have the same opportunities as her and to always be grateful about what she had.
And at some point, she was, but it wasn't until she saw her father's blood on her perfect carpet and him lying on it, well...dead. maybe that's why Hayden didn't consider herself completely good.
Do not think wrongly, Hayden did not kill her father, she was only 6 years old when it happened, in reality it was wicked who entered through her door and murdered her father in cold blood, being handed over to them by her mother that same night.
But then again, that wouldn't matter since the memories she would have had of her horrible, dysfunctional family and that night when her father was killed by a gunshot to the head would be taken from her in no time.
After all, wicked was good at erasing people's memories, Hayden knew it.
If you asked her, Hayden would have wanted to keep the memories of her family to at least know she had one before being completely controlled by wicked. However, it was no longer her decision to make, she would no longer be in control of her life after that day.
Why do bad things happen to good people? Hayden often wondered.
Sometimes some have to get a little dirty to do a difficult job, now, would getting a little dirty make you a bad person? even if you're doing things right or...things you thought were right.
Hayden would know.
