This story is a prequel to both Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness as well as my AVENGERS: INCURSION WAR book, but it is, in my opinion, so well thought out that one could consider it canon. It explores the time between Wandavision and the Doctor Strange sequel, where the darkhold slowly began consuming her mind and corrupting her completely beyond recognition.

After the events of Wandavision, Wanda Maximoff was a broken, tired soul. The pain of losing Vision and their children was unbearable, and the realization that she was the one who caused so much destruction left her in despair. She wanted to understand her powers better so that she could prevent such things from ever happening again.

The Darkhold was her only hope. After all, Agatha told her about an entire chapter devoted to the Scarlet Witch contained in its pages. Using her limited understandings of the universe and the laws that go with it, she thought by reading about her prophecy and learning about herself, she could change her fate, she could learn to control her powers, to own them.

She knew that the book was dangerous, but she didn't care. As always, using her impulsive thoughts to dictate her actions, she took the book from under Agatha's basement and took off to the mountains. Upon arriving, she created a small cabin near a lake in a desolate place outside Wundagore Mountain, where she could study the book in peace, away from the prying eyes of the world.
