Chapter 05

Don't stop, make it pop

DJ, blow my speakers up

Tonight, I'mma fight

'Til we see the sunlight

Tick tock on the clock

But the party don't stop, no…

I woke up to the sound of Kim’s alarm. I understood now why she was always in a bad mood every morning; she really needed to change that song. I stood up from the bed and walked towards her bathroom to wash my teeth. It wasn’t a good idea to drink last night, after the movies we came to her house and we almost drank a bottle of vodka. Kim and Seth were still sleeping. I grabbed my stuff and went home, it was a good thing I lived next door, and I really needed a shower.

“You were drinking last night, didn't you?” Mom shouted when I opened the front door.

“Shh… mom we were at Kim’s and it was only Kim and Seth.” I told her. “Where’s dad?”

“He went to the office...” She started talking really fast and I barely paid any attention to her. I walked up to my room and went straight to the bathroom. Half an hour later I came out like new and really hungry. Mom was in her room watching TV, so there was no way she’d cook anything for me. I was finishing my delicious breakfast when the doorbell rang; frowning and swearing under my breathe I walked towards the front door to see who was bothering me while I was eating breakfast. I tried to put a nice face and opened the door; I almost had a heart attack.

“What are you doing here?” I asked confused. Not every day you had you archenemy standing on you doorway.

“Mom drove me here. She still thinks you are tutoring me.” Owen said nonchalantly.

“Oh.” That’s all I managed to say. I was still confused; maybe he told her mom I was tutoring him in my house.

“Are you gonna let me in?” He asked, but he made his way inside the house pushing me to the side. That was why I hated him.

“Owen, couldn’t you just go somewhere else. I’m not going to waste my time with you.” He sighed and turned to look at me.

“Listen, I don’t like you either, but you were right and I need your help.” He murmured the last part, but I heard him clearly. I couldn’t help the smile that was forming on my lips. “Are you going to help me or what?” He asked rolling her eyes.

“Sure. You’ll see this is going to be easy and soon you won’t need me anymore.” I said smiling.

“I hope so.” He said with a flat expression. I led him to our dining room; there was no way I was letting him go to my room. We started with our Calculus homework and I was right he wasn’t that stupid. He actually learned things really fast, well physics was a different story; he was really bad.

“Jo!” Mom shouted, she was still angry because I was drinking last night.

“I’m here.”

“Couldn’t you wash-” She started to say, but then noticed Owen was also in the room and smiled. She was funny and laid back, not usually this weird; probably the effect of the hormones and pregnancy were causing her to act all neurotic and bipolar. I shouldn’t have said that, but she was driving dad and me crazy. “Hi.” She said to Owen. He smiled to her.

“This is Owen, the guy I’m tutoring.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Owen.” Mom said smiling.
