Hyperfixation

Midoriya didn’t really understand anything nowadays after Black whip had managed to weasel its way into his arsonal and Danger sense had become a constant in the back of his head. He wasn’t too sure of what would be next, he simply hoped that whatever of the 6 would come when needed and not cause any harm to his classmates. He could handle the pain.

The day was very calm so far, it was a Friday evening, and after some staining training, it was a welcome break to be able to sit on the couch and just listen to the sounds of the hustle and bustle of the common room. He enjoyed the background noise, it was calming and kept the underlying voice of his gained hypervigilance quiet and at bay. He couldn’t help but use the lack of distractions to get ahead on some work. He would normally wear noise-canceling headphones to keep the noise down so he could focus, but with the flux of positive and friendly surroundings, his mind wasn’t racing with thoughts.

He’s been working on scribbling down answers on his math homework, going through it with surprising ease as he sat comfortably leaning against the arm of the couch. He had his closed laptop in his lap, using it as a hard surface as he worked. Around him were Kirishima and Kaminari, the two were sitting next to each other at the end of the couch, delving into a game with way too much enthusiasm. It was soothing and it made Izuku happy that they were having so much fun as he flipped over his paper to be met with the already done side. He leaned over the couch and started to dig through his bag to put it away in his folder.

Midoriya had opened up his laptop to start working his way through reading one of his classmates, he was good with writing structure and the go-to student when it came to peer criticism. A big part was the fact he gave good feedback without any harsh or mean comments, he honestly but politely tells them where they messed up and gives hints to fix it. Izuku was going through Kaminari’s paper, it was rather obvious due to the glances he gave the duo near him. He didn’t seem disinterested, more confused as he wrote some notes as he saw some stuff. Jiro had been passing by the couch, she didn’t need much to be able to tell what he was doing and had to keep from laughing. She wouldn’t be surprised if the dumb blonde managed to break the shorter teen’s brain.

She sat down on the floor in front of him, though he didn’t really react. Normally the teen would have greeted her with a smile and her name but he was focusing so it didn’t surprise her.

Izuku had to re-read this. It was stupid, undoubtedly stupid, but he had a good argument. He wasn’t really sure what to say since his new topic doesn’t mesh well with the rest of his paper, and on top of that it doesn’t even go with the directions for this essay. It was supposed to be about the negative aftereffects of a large fight and delve into rescue training, not go into a ramble about how the ocean was a soup. He was blinking trying to process the information.

Kaminari wasn’t wrong, as much as he wished he could shoot down this statement, he really couldn’t deny his points. He was watching the computer for a moment before he started to go through the statements and points in his head. He hadn’t even noticed the confused looks and laughter at his confusion coming from those around him. He closed his eyes after a moment to try and get through his brain glitch to get back on track.

They’d all come to expect a lot of things from Midoriya, at this point this short, self-destructive, persistent, and anxious boy had become like a new page every day. You can always rely on him in a fight and for help on classwork, though it’s better just to let him critique than help you with homework. Kirishima had come to the realization that while he was intelligent, the green-haired teen couldn’t really teach. He rambled too much when it came to talking, writing is where he could keep his mind in place.
