Chapter 8 – Getting Better:

Luna’s P.O.V

I threw back the shot glass and smiled as the psychedelic music pulsed through the basement. Even though my legs ached from running 20 kilometres throughout the day, I somehow felt a bit better once again. My aunt had given me a call. She was looking after my younger brother – Trey – and a letter had come in the mail from my older sister, Smile. Slowly, they were all getting better too. It’d been nearly 4 months since mum and dad had passed away.

It still tore me up, but I’d go for a run and break down; I’d be fine afterwards. I missed them so much; missed the smell of their pot, their incense. I missed their cooking and warm hugs. I missed my brother and sister too.

Sighing, I twirled to the music, slightly tipsy. Jane was hanging off one of the boys and Alice came over and took my arms and started dancing with me as The Vacancies came on over the speakers. I laughed, spinning her out. My hips swayed softly to the music as she spun me outwards. Only, I didn’t come back to her as someone else caught me. I looked up at Nate and puckered my eyebrows as he took my arms.

After a while, I shrugged and let him spin me as another one of their songs played. His hands were large, and felt smooth against my wrists. My fingers rubbed the hairs on his wrists, and I nodded my head to the music, not caring how chilled I felt.

“You sure are pretty,” He said over the music.

I snorted, shutting my eyes to the next song, “You sure are funny.”

“I’m serious,” Nate laughed, spinning me outwards. I let go of his hand and went back over to Alice who was dancing by herself. No you’re not, I thought. Because I’m not.

I tossed back another shot and smiled at Jane who joined Alice and me. Jane grinned as I put the glass onto a table. “You coming back with us tonight?”

Shrugging, I rolled my eyes. “What else have I got to do on a Friday night? Homework?”

Alice frowned, “You don’t have---?”

“I’m not doing homework on a Friday night!”

I slumped into the sofa and sighed, hand wrapped around a cup of… Well, I wasn’t too sure what it was, but it tasted nice. Nash and Skylar sat on the other side of the couch, and I cocked my head to the side, staring at the brick wall.

Within moments of the door closing, the group was into it. I puckered my eyebrow, glancing over. Gabe and Nate were practically mauling Jane, while Alice was laughing at something while dragging off Jasper’s pants. Shrugging, I relaxed into the worn fabric.

“You okay?” Nash asked, looking over at me while putting one of his smooth, manly hands on my knee.

I frowned down at his long fingers; and blushed as thoughts of what they could do, popped into my head. “Yeah,” I said. “I’m just happy is all, I guess.”

“Really?” Skylar asked softly, making my lip twitch into a smile.

“Yeah,” I began. “Yeah, I’m happy. You’re all the first friends I’ve had in a while.” I said, shutting my eyes and letting my head drop to the side.

I felt the most chilled that I had in ages. My parent’s death and moving away from home had made me uptight and ready to break. But tonight, I was okay. I was properly okay; there was no second guessing it. I knew that when I woke up, I’d have a head ache and that I’d be back to the Luna that I’d become; but for now I was happy.
