I walk on the rough and rubbled pavement,
My dress green and soft,
As the brownness of my hair falls over my shoulders,
And my shoes shining with the Sun's lightA grand place,
Bordered with flags of our Nation,
And filled with returning soldiers,
All standing tall and stillMany have come here and wait like me,
Waiting for a spouse, child, or friend,
And I stand wondering how I'll greet mine,
Whether a simple pat on the back, or maybe even a hugAll that's heard are the chirping songs of birds and an officer's voice,
And as the soldiers are dismissed,
The birds are gone and so is the officer,
Entering sounds of love, joy and tearsMy soldier walks towards me,
Tall and dashing in his uniform,
His smile brighter than the radiant Sun,
And his eyes brown and comfortingI settle on giving him a hug,
But as he now stands in front of me,
I kiss him,
And a kiss does so much better than a hug
