Agreeing to share a house with Josh Hyland may have just been both the best and worst mistake of Maddie's life.
Maddie, only eighteen and straight out of high school, accepted her invite to Fischer University, states away from her childhood home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Unable to stay at home and attend the university of her dreams, she rents an apartment in California and prepares to start college life.
Then, her best friend Paige's brother, Josh, back from a gap year travelling the world is also accepted and needs a place to live.
And Maddie, being the silly kid she is, agrees to let him live in her apartment, partly because she needs someone else to help pay the rent, a little bit because she wants someone she knows around, and an even smaller bit because she still hasn't given up on her teenage crush on him.
Maddie's never cared much for the sun, but maybe Josh can show her just how amazing a ray on sunshine can be.
