Author’s Recap:   Lydia, Robert, and their new foster daughter Kaitlyn have a wonderful time at Saturday evening’s Pediatric AIDS and Foster home benefit.  Kaitlyn is resplendent in a new pink velvet dress they bought her.  Lydia and Robert also buy her two dollies just for her at the silent auction.  They are exhausted when they get home Saturday evening and Kaitlyn falls fast asleep.

“Love & Friendship”, Ch.  21:  Kaitlyn has Kensington Family time on Sunday

Just in case, when Lydia gets up in the middle of the night on Saturday to Sunday to visit the bathroom, she checks on Kaitlyn and helps her go to the potty, too.  Kaitlyn is so tired herself, that she then sleeps peacefully all night long—with no fears or worries about being in a new place.  And, it helps that Lydia rises early around 7:00am and goes into Kaitlyn’s room and checks again to see if she wants to go potty again.  Kaitlyn does and Lydia helps Kaitlyn wash her face and brush her teeth. Lydia also gives Kaitlyn her morning HIV medications—that Lydia keeps in her own bedroom closet on a high shelf for safety reasons.  Then, Lydia and Kaitlyn pad downstairs to the kitchen in their jammies and robes to make breakfast for themselves and Daddy Robert.

Lydia:  “So Kaitlyn, do you have a favorite breakfast food you like to eat?”   Lydia asks looking in the open fridge door.

Kaitlyn:  Also looking into the open fridge door, she says shyly.  She isn’t usually asked for her preference since the foster home meals are planned.  “I like French toast.  May we have that?” Kaitlyn asks politely.

Lydia:  “Sure.  That’s Daddy Robert’s favorite, too—that is, when he’s not filming and has to watch his weight.”  Lydia pulls out the eggs, milk, and bread.  She also grabs the vanilla extract from the baking cabinet and starts mixing everything together.

Kaitlyn:  “Mummy Lydia, what does Daddy Robert film?”   Kaitlyn asks quizzically.

Lydia:  Not realizing until now that Kaitlyn might not know who Robert is, she says.  “Oh, Daddy Robert is an actor.  So, he acts in stories on tv and in movies.  He and I have a story we’re doing together that will start filming this Spring.”

Kaitlyn:  “What’s your story about, Mummy Lydia?”

Lydia:  “Well Kaitlyn Sweetie, it’s a love story.  A man and a woman fall in love and they make a family.”

Kaitlyn:  “I like that.  It sounds like us.”  Kaitlyn says smiling up at Lydia.

Lydia:   “Yes, it does.”  Lydia smiles at Kaitlyn and caresses her face.  “And, Daddy Robert is really good at bedtime stories, too.  You were so sleepy last night when we got home late that you missed a bedtime story.  So, we’ll have to do that tonight.”
