Chapter 1: One Direction

AN: The band is not famous in this so it's like a battle of the band kind of thing yeah and now I'm back and ready! The song her band sing is on the sidee

“Wow… this place is pretty big.” Evan says from behind me, I nod licking my chapped lips. I’m basically shaking in my combat boots at the fact that we’re here in the heart of London and we’re in the battle of the bands. That is absolutely crazy! All around us are different bands and a variety of people, from pink hair to black hair, from pale ivory skin to dark ebony ones. A collection of people and everything was music.

Basically, two months back my band Zero Gravity consisting of my four best friends Evan, Jimmy, Kennedy, Lola and I entered the battle of the bands, we got through and after that we kept winning and now we’re in the semi-finals.

Twelve bands and six of them will be eliminated leaving only six so it’s pretty intense. A security guard comes up to us,

“Which band are you guys?” He questions,

“Zero Gravity.” Evan says he’s basically the voice of the band. We started this whole thing back when we were freshman and decided to continue it after doing a few gigs and realizing we weren’t horrible and people weren’t tone deaf.

“Come over here.” The security guard says leading us away, and we all walk still observing the scene around us. We can see all the other bands checking us out and I feel somewhat good, we are really good and half our songs are original so we aren’t talentless monkeys behind some instruments.

Basically, the whole set up is Lola Martinez is our singer with her strong melodic voice, Evan Johnson is on bass guitar while Jimmy Dodger is on electric, Kennedy Marx is on piano and I, Mia Strong is the drummer.

Silently we start to set up and tune our instruments until Jimmy says,

“So… see anybody we need to worry about?”

“We kind of need to worry about all of them Jimmy, I mean we can’t go in there with a bullshit attitude and expect to win.” Kennedy says running a hand through her blonde and pink hair, she looks apprehensive as she presses a few keys on her piano.

“Kennedy’s right.” Lola states and Evan scoffs,

“C’mon guys have some faith! Think about all the damage we can do, we’re good!” He says and I nod walking over to him and nodding,

“I side with Evan I mean I’m not saying we should get cocky but we have to keep the faith.” Kennedy makes a face at me,

“Keep the faith? Who are you some bad motivational speaker?” She asks with a scowl and I narrow my eyes,

“Uncalled for blondie.”

“Bring it brunette!” Kennedy cries and we both stare at each other than we both start giggling uncontrollably. Kennedy and I have been best friends since we were like five, we didn’t fight. I met Evan when he walked into my algebra class in sixth grade with his big green eyes and dirty blonde hair, Jimmy was quiet but he could play mean guitar and we kept telling him he needed to shave the afro but of course he didn’t listen to us and Lola and I met when I was a Freshman when we both tried out for a part in the musical, Grease. She got Sandy and I got Rizzo so we both kind of won.

Anyways I watch all my friends, biting their lips and their hearts probably pounding and I have so much love for these four coursing through my veins it’s like I wouldn’t care if we lost… but I do so I say nothing just so I don’t jinx it.

~~

The first 10 bands are really good! Jaded are amazing, Maxine and The Punk Rockers make me nervous because they had this serene calmness to them and I’m kind of freaking out. The good thing so far is that we’re covering songs so that makes it easier on us, my band had picked My Fault by Imagine Dragons to cover.

“I’m kind of really scared.” Lola whispers in my ear and I kind of am too but always the voice of reason I need to keep my band mates under control. I look at all their faces and they look close to passing out and I sigh running a hand through my brunette locks,

“Guys we got this! Listen to me right now okay; none of these bands have a thing on us.” I state and they’re all staring at me and I sigh, “C’mon gather around.” I say and they all reluctantly form a circle like in the movies,

“We got this.” Evan says and I nod smiling at him,

“Yeah we do actually! We’ll beat all these punks I just know it!” I say and it probably should be rude but I just need them to be hyped and not quit on me now so they all nod. I grin, “Good.”

We all turn back around and it’s kind of nerve wrecking to be the last ones playing but it goes in alphabetical order.

Now the host a thin girl named Heather says,

“Give it up for One Direction!” And everyone cheers and I’ve heard of One Direction considering I checked out the competition and I remember five guys, one with hair in thick curls, a blondie, one with a buzz cut, and another with coiffed raven black hair and a small one with feathery brown hair.

I watch as the five boys appear on stage and curly goes over to the mic while blondie gets on acoustic guitar, feathery hair on piano, black hair on drums and buzz cut on bass guitar.

“Erm this is We Can Work it Out by The Beatles.” The judges nod writing something down and then the music starts playing. My eyes scan them over and I’m immediately drawn to the drummer who seems so sure where he is, black hair perfectly styled, black studs in his ear and this smirk on his face that should’ve been annoying but it was really hot.

“Try to see it my way. Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on? While you see it your way run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone, we can work it out we can work it out.” Curls sang into the microphone and I frowned deeply because his voice was actually really good, “Life is very short, and there's no time

for fussing and fighting, my friend.  I have always thought that it's a crime so I will ask you once again.” This time they sang that whole part together and I could see the girls in the audience we had were going crazy!

I turned my head to watch my band mates’ reactions and they all looked like they were going to be sick except for Evan, always the cool one. I caught his eye and we both nodded at each other for reassurance, we could do this! We were Zero Gravity!

When they finish and leave the stage everybody’s applauding, even we applaud reluctantly and without enthusiasm. Heather runs up to the stage mouth wide and gaping,

“Wasn’t that a wonderful surprise? One Direction great job!” The audience cheers and I can see all the boys smirking to each other and I look at my band,

“They’re going down okay, down.” I state and Evan nods,

“Yes they are.”

“I’m gonna be sick.” Jimmy says and all four of us look at him,

“No!” We scream silently so nobody hears us. We all turn back to the stage where Heather’s waiting for the audience to settle down,

“Okay alright. Now for the last but not least band… Zero Gravity!” She yells and taking a deep breath, we all scurry onto the stage and I don’t pay attention to anybody else, just my band mates as I make my way to the drums.

“Uh we’re going to be singing My Fault by Imagine Dragons.” Lola says and the judges nod. I situate myself on the drums and then the song starts and everything else fades away.
