And at that instant, she felt her worry lessen; her concerns dissipate. A slow smile made its way onto her face, gently digging craters in her plump cheeks. She laughed, her face wrinkled with amusement, her hair lit aflame by blazing sunshine.

She finally turned to face him, the deadly rays of the brightest star bleeding into her hazel eyes, her delighted laughter gradually morphing into heart-wrenching sobs.

And she went on, half crying half laughing, a manic grin stretching the cherry lips that intercepted her tears.

She looked deep into cold blue eyes, feeling ice shards infiltrating her skin, despite the sun warming up her back.

She closed her eyes, finding peace in the certitude that she did everything she possibly could to escape her fate.

She fell, her trembling knees finally giving out underneath her.

"You fought bravely"

She scoffed, "I never stood a chance."

She stayed seated even as she heard the heavy thump of his boots on the wet grass.

She stayed silent even as the touch of his hand on her forehead made her burn from the inside out.

But even in death, he couldn't grasp a hold of her ; her eyes a gateway for him to see the signs of defiance carved deep into her soul.
