Laila’s stomach flipped as she skipped to the front and almost center. Katie was naturally the center since she was technically the main official captain. Ramani stood to her right, while Laila positioned herself on Katie’s left side. Shanti was bouncing up and down in excitement to Laila’s left, while Miya completed the front row all the way to the right. Caleb stood directly behind Laila. They needed to be close as possible for the upcoming flying stunts.

C’MON, PANTHERS!” Ashley’s petite voice was impossibly loud from somewhere behind. “KICK ALL THEIR ASSES! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!
“Ashley!”

“What?!”

“No profanity!”

“Fine, mom.” Ashley rolled her eye’s at Katie’s necessary scolding. Normally it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but after the assembly that afternoon it was best if the girls didn’t take any extra chances.

Laila giggled to herself as she heard a commotion behind her. She turned around to see Ashley and Victoria in a playful scuffle. They had already broken formation; the second row was supposed to be Victoria, Sophia, Caleb, Ashley, and then Kalie. But Victoria had ventured her way to Ashley’s side and was currently wrestling with the latter. Laila stifled a laugh as Katie started shouting for them to get back to formation. Her eyes roamed to the back row, which contained all of the younger cheerleaders. She caught sight of Carolyn and quickly turned back around.

What is that girl’s problem? I barely freaking know her and she already won’t stop glaring at me.

“Good luck, Ron!” Miya’s voice cut through all the cheering as the soccer team began making its way to the field.

“Thanks,” He shot Miya a fleeting smile as he passed. Miya squealed in delight the moment he was out of earshot.

“Byee Wes!” Laila waved a pom pom as he jogged past, “Good luck!”

“Thanks,” He shot her a cheerful grin and kept going.

“None for me?”

She jumped at Jace’s sudden voice. “Um,” She made a face at him. One of confusion. She had already told him good luck, and he had insulted her in usual Jace fashion. She decided to try again anyways. “Good luck?”

“Thanks, Rabbit.”

“Stop calling me that!” She nearly screamed it in frustration. But he was already gone with the rest of the team. She stared at his back, inwardly seething. Her emotions seemed like a constant game to him and she was getting sick of it.

“You know,--”

“Shutup.”

“You’re always so grumpy lately,” Caleb sounded dejected at the prompt shut down.

“Only because you’ve been extra obnoxious lately,” She sang back, then turned around to smile at him. It was all in good fun, but he did need to shutup a lot lately. Her high and perfect ponytail swung as she peppily turned back to the field. It was time for the kick off.

Alex stood on one side of the referee and ball, while the other team captain stood opposite him. Laila drifted in and out of paying attention, mostly observing everyone instead. This part had always bored her. All the guys were in complete gear now. Shin guards, high socks, cleats. All the things necessary for safety. She placed her hands on her hips as her eyes roamed over to Jace. For once he wasn’t paying her any attention.
