~PROLOGUE
"When I grow up mommy I want to be just like you!" Little Kalyn told her mother as she climbed upon her lap.
"Oh no sweetie, you need to be your own person, not me." Sarah told her seven year old daughter.
"But mommy, I want to be like you." Kalyn's smile turned to a confused frown.
"You will understand some day Kalyn. Hopefully soon." Sarah kisses her daughter gently on the forehead.
"I love you mommy!" Kalyn hugged her mom as tightly as she could.
The door of their small cottage burst open and a tall burly man walked in urgently. "They are here Sarah!" He shouted huridly with a look of panic on his sharp, rough features.
Sarah stiffened at his words and turned her attention back to her daughter Kalyn.
"Kalyn sweetie, I need you to listen to me very carefully!" Tears started to slide down Sarah's smooth olive skin. Kalyn nodded. "When I say, I want you to run out the back door as fast as you can." Sarah was now sobbing. "You need to keep running through the dark woods and don't stop for anything! Do you hear me?" Sarah gripped her daughters shoulders tightly.
"Yes mommy." Tears streemed down Kalyn's face as she tried to comprehend what her mother was saying.
"We don't have anymore time Sarah!" The burly man raised his voice. The sound of hooves on the gravel road seemed to bring a chill to the air.
"Okay Kalyn get ready!" Sarah led her small daughter to the door. "I love you sweetie." She kissed her daughter on the forehead and hugged her tightly.
"I love you too mommy." Kalyn wiped her tears with her sleeve and put her hand on the door knob. Her mother walked over to the front door and stood by the large man.
They exchanged worried looks as the sound of hooves came to a halt. Feet hit the ground and footsteps approached the house. The sound of heavy knuckles on the door brought an awful feeling.
"Sarah Florin and Tansin Rays?!" A powerful voice echoed.
Sarah looked at her daughter with a knod. Kalyn opened the door quietly and have one final glance at her mother before she shut the door behind her. Kalyn heard the front door burst open as she ran like her mother had told her. Her mothers screams brought burning tears to her eyes as she ran into the Dark Woods, not looking back.
