It had been a cold day, and Akari-San was happy that she could finally go home and escape all the rumors that had been spreading about her. She started packing up her things when she heard Nishikata say goodbye to her. She replied with a simple nod, and she saw him start walking to the door. As he was about to leave the classroom, Akari saw Takagi-San ask him something. She heard only whispers of their conversation, but she heard mentions of going home together. Akari saw him nod and she felt her heart sink even more than it had that morning.
She walked home by herself, and it was raining heavily. She had forgotten to bring her umbrella, so she got completely soaked by the rain. She was halfway home when her phone started ringing. She checked it and saw that it was Nishikata. As soon as she picked up however, she was surprised to hear a girl crying into the phone. When she asked what was wrong, what she heard broke her heart.
"Nishikata g-got h-hit by a car" She heard the voice scream.
