Flower of Death

After Kaneki left, Himika thought it would be best if she went out to find her teammates, curious to see what they are up to. Himika readjusted her scarf before walking out of her small apartment and locking the door. Himika strolled along the village streets, watching the children play as they ran across the streets. She had no idea where any of her teammates even lived, so she decided that she would look around for them. She walked silently as she passed several food stands, she luckily didn't gag, not wanting it to look like she thought their cooking was gross, although it was going to be gross to her anyway. She passed the stands and looked around until a head of spiky black hair caught her attention.

"Shikamaru!" Himika called, raising her voice slightly so he could hear her.

Shikamaru turned around and saw her, walking over to her until they were face to face.

"Hey Himika, what's up?" Shikamaru asked, hands in his pockets in a lazy way.

"Nothing really, just training." She lied.

"Cool, same with me I guess. I was just going to the hospital." Shikamaru replied.

"Hospital? How come?" Himika asked.

"Choji ate too much barbeque and is in the hospital, I also thought I'd check up on Lee and Naruto." Shikamaru replied.

"Why's Naruto in the hospital?" She inquired.

"I guess he used too much chakra when he was training and just needed more rest." Shikamaru replied.

"Mind if I come with you then?" Himika asked.

"I don't mind." He answered, shrugging his shoulders.

"But first we should go get some flowers for Naruto, Choji and Lee." Himika said, remembering that you should get flowers for people when they are sick, she remembered other reasons as well.

"What a drag." Shikamaru sighed.

"Everything's a drag to you Shikamaru." Himika replied.

"That's true I guess." Shikamaru replied.

Himika led the way to a flower shop she's passed before and walked inside, the smell of flowers greeting their noses. Himika was a little happy that flowers didn't smell bad to her too. Himika started looking around for pretty flowers as Shikamaru walked over to the counter to chat with Ino.

The only flower that caught her eye was a red flower that had many different stems and petals that extended from the stem of the flower.

Himika read the name of the flowers off the tag and stared at them curiously.

'Red spider lily.' She read off the tag.

Finding the flowers truly beautiful, Himika grabbed three of them, one for Choji, Lee and Naruto. She walked up to the cash register and only now noticed that Ino was working there.

"Hello Ino." Himika greeted as she placed the flowers down.

"H-hello." Ino stuttered still slightly nervous around her.

Shikamaru glared at Ino a little, his glare telling her to 'treat her nicely.' Ino nodded and went back to helping her customer.

"I'd like to buy these three flowers please." Himika said, pointing at the red spider lilies she placed on the counter.

"Shikamaru said you were going to visit Choji, Lee and Naruto in the hospital, are you sure you want to buy this kind of flower?" Ino asked, glancing at the red flowers.

"They are beautiful flowers, why wouldn't I buy them?" Himika responded.

"It's just that, red spider lilies are also known as the 'flower of death,' and are more commonly given to people at a funeral." Ino said.

"I see, well I would still like to get these." Himika replied, staring down at the lilies.

"Alright then..." Ino muttered as she started punching numbers into the cash register.

Himika paid for the flowers and Ino wrapped them for her before Shikamaru and Himika left to go to the hospital. They walked to the hospital together, talking a little as they walked, although it was really Shikamaru doing the talking. Eventually they arrived at the hospital and walked up to the front desk.

"Could you tell us what rooms Choji Akimichi, Rock Lee and Naruto Uzumaki are in?" Shikamaru asked the female nurse.

"Of course!" She replied before listing off the room numbers.

Shikamaru and Himika walked down the hallway to the third room on the left, choji's room. Shikamaru talked briefly with Choji and Himika gave him one of the flowers she bought. Choji thanked her for the flower and the two left to go to the next room. They walked further down the hallway until they came to the eleventh door on the right, Naruto's room.

"Hey guys!" Naruto said as soon as he saw them enter.

"How are you feeling?" Himika asked as she walked over to him.

"I'm fine now!" Naruto replied, a huge grin on his face.

Himika handed him one of her flowers and gave him a small smile to show she was glad he's feeling better. Naruto smiled back at her before he began to talk with Shikamaru.

"How's Bushy Brow doing?" Naruto asked.

"Himika and I were just about to go check on him." Shikamaru replied.

"I'll come with you then!" Naruto said, throwing off the sheets and standing up.

It was only now that Himika saw the amount of bandages that wrapped around his entire body.

'What kind of training did he do?' She wondered.

"If you're coming then let's go." Shikamaru said, opening the door to Naruto's room.

Himika and Naruto followed behind him, walking down two doors to Lee's room. Shikamaru opened the door and everyone was immediately on guard. Himika leapt into the room standing protectively in front of Lee's bed staring into the eyes of his attacker.

'This guy again.' Himika thought.

Shikamaru and Naruto stood back for a moment before joining Himika in front of Lee's hospital bed. The red haired attacker stared at the three of them as his sand started to creep around Lee.

"What are you doing?!" Naruto yelled.

"I need to kill him." Gaara replied.

"Why?!" Naruto asked, his voice laced with anger.

Gaara didn't respond, Shikamaru, Naruto and Himika all prepared for the worst. They continued to stare each other down until Lee's sensei came.

"Leave." Gai ordered.

Gaara scowled, but disappeared in a swirl of sand, taking all of the sand in the room with him. After Gaara left, everyone watched over the sleeping Lee as Shikamaru and Naruto talked with Gai-sensei. Himika walked over to Lee's bedside table and placed the last red spider lily into the vase on the table which already had a flower from someone else there. Himika walked back over to the others just in time to hear Naruto's shocked voice.

"THE CHUUNIN EXAM FINALS ARE TOMORROW?!" Naruto yelled.

"Yes." Himika, Shikamaru and Gai replied.

Naruto ran around the room panicking as everyone else sighed.

'If Dosu's dead, I wonder who my opponent will be.' Himika wondered.
