Wakanda.
(Chloe's POV)

It was a set of huts by a small river. A few children ran around laughing. They ran up to Shuri and spoke in a language I wasn't familiar with. She smiled and spoke back to them before they ran off.

"He's this way." She said leading the way. A few women were sitting outside their huts talking. They smiled as Shuri and I walked past them and I waved gently.

We stopped outside a hut and Shuri spoke. "Sargent Barnes? You have a visitor."

There was a rustling from inside the hut before a voice could be heard. "How many times do I have to tell you, kid, it's..." Bucky appeared in the doorway of the hut, stopping in the middle of his sentence when he saw me. "Chloe,"

He looked different. And it wasn't just because of the fact that he no longer had a left hand. His hair seemed longer and looked like he needed a shower. He also needed to shave. But his eyes seemed brighter. Like he had more life in him.

"Hi." I waved awkwardly.

"I'll leave you two alone." Shuri smiled. "You think you'll find your way back?"

"If I can't I'm sure I can get someone to help." Shuri laughed before leaving.

"What are you doing here?" Bucky asked.

I sighed. "It's a long story, but the short version is, I think my memories were taken. And as the only other person who's as familiar with Hydra as I am, I figured you'd know how." I did my best to explain.

"You think they took your memories?" He asked as he sat down looking out over the river.

"There was a tape. I'm in it, and they put me in a chair. I remember it. The pain. It was worse than anything I've ever felt. And that's saying something." I sat down next to him.

"You were there too. After me, they put you in the chair thing. It was horrible. The screams, the pain." I paused to gauge his reaction. "Shuri said you remembered me. From before. Is that what she meant?"

"I'm not one-hundred percent sure, Chloe. I remember you though. You were younger. Eleven maybe. I was on an assignment. They took me back to Russia and sent us to the city for an assassination." He stopped to watch the water. He seemed to be deciding what to say. "I don't remember the details, but that's what I know for sure."

I looked at him then at the river. What he said sounded familiar. The assignment, the city, even the assassination. Something in the back of my mind tingled. Like the memory was fully unlocked.

"I killed someone, didn't I?" I asked playing with the grass. I could see him nod out of the corner of my eye.

I knew it.

"Why would they take my memory of that?" I asked him with a sigh.

"You went against orders I think. That's the only reason they would do that. That or they originally intended to do it." Bucky looked at me as I squinted out across the river. "Are you alright?"

"No. But I think I will be." I felt pressure behind my eyes and I could feel tears start to form. I swallowed the lump in my throat and pushed the tears back.

"I'm sorry." Bucky apologized softly.

"It's okay. Honestly, I'm not surprised that they messed with my mind. They messed with everything else so it was bound to happen." I sighed.

It was quiet for a little while before the small group of kids ran over again. They spoke to Bucky quickly but he just smiled. He didn't seem to understand what they were saying either but he nodded along. They ran off after a few minutes of talking over each other and it was quiet again.

"Who else is here?"

"Mom and Steve. Wanda's in Scotland on personal time, and Sam's in Italy for some emergency thing, don't ask me what for though." I told him standing up. The blood rushed from my head and I fell forward as the world tilted.

"Woah! Are you okay?" Bucky stood up faster than I could process and caught me with one arm. For someone who was over a hundred years old and only had one arm at the moment, he was incredibly agile.

"Mmhm." I hummed as the world slowed to a stop and was no longer spinning.

"Yeah, you're not okay. Sit down, I'm going to get you some water." Bucky sat me down on a small stool and moved to the next hut where a woman was sitting. He came back a moment later with a small cup of water and handed it to me. "Drink."

I stared at the cup. "Drink it, kid." He commanded.

"Yes, Dad," I muttered rolling my eyes but drank the water. It was all gone in mere seconds.

"Better?"

I nodded. "Thank you."

"Don't mention it." He ran a hand through his hair. He really needed a shower.

"How are you? Shuri said you were better. That you worked through it." I asked him.

"I went under because I couldn't trust my own mind. Shuri and the Dora Milaje have made sure I can. There are still moments, dreams, memories, where I think all this is wrong, but I'm better." He smiled like there was some kind of weight lifted off his shoulders.

"And the arm?"

"I don't need it. I'm not fighting a war here, I'm not in danger."

"You're not a danger," I said softly.

"I'm always going to be a danger." He smiled sadly.

"So am I. There's probably not going to be a time when I'm not a danger." I watched the water in the river move.

After a while of not talking, I spoke up. "I should go. Mom is going to start interrogating Shuri if I don't get back soon."

Bucky nodded in understanding. "I am sorry, Chloe."

"It's not your fault, but thank you," I said standing. I took a moment to balance myself and make sure I wouldn't fall again. "I'm glad you're better."

Bucky smiled as I started to walk away. "You're going to tell them, right?"

"Yeah." I turned to look at him. "If I don't Mom will just pull it out of me."

He laughed but didn't say anything. I could tell there was something he wanted to say, but I had a feeling I knew what it was. I waved goodbye and started the walk back to the city. A guard stood by a tree a few hundred yards away waiting.

Shuri must have left him.

Haha, another chapter! I'm proud of myself! This one is kinda a filler, but also important I guess. It's a little bit in between.

I'm moving at the moment so I'm going to try and get a lot of writing done, so hopefully, I'll get some new chapters out.

Anyways, I hope you guys like the chapter. The next one will be out soon hopefully.
