I’m curious. Are you able to listen to an audiobook while also performing a task that requires your attention?

A friend of mine insists he can do it while working, and he has the kind of job where he has to fix computer-related problems.

Not me. Sure, I can listen while driving, doing the dishes, or performing other simple tasks that take little conscious thought, but I definitely can’t follow an audiobook while reading something else, or trying to follow a conversation.

Shoot, even when driving with an audiobook playing, I often need to smack the back-15 button a few times, because I started thinking about something else and lost the story.

          What about you?

@gladhaven same as you. I don't even understand how people read while listening to music. I like to do them separately and with full attention to it only. That's how I appreciate both the forms of art.

@gladhaven Same as you, I could do that. I can't even concentrate on reading when they break for commercials on my classical music station or the stupid DJ starts blabbering. The words interfere with the words.

However, I can think about a problem while reading, so I can believe your friend can do the same thing. It's like having a double highway going through your head. One highway has the story on it, the other the problem. You're standing on an overpass, looking down on both lanes.

I've never tried to do that with an audio book, as I normally use them as bedtime stories (so when falling asleep) and am not trying to think about anything else right then -- or do anything else but sleep.

@gladhaven Well, I don't really do audiobooks, but I have found that I can read while holding a conversation (though I'll be a bit distracted), and I can read while walking behind our cart at the grocery store, even though I haven't done THAT in a long time...

Hello!❤ Thanks so much for the follow! If you follow me because of my books and stories, I do pray may you be blessed as you read it. But if you haven't seen any of my books, I'm still glad that you became part of my watty life. God bless you!

I just entered the Wattys for the first time!

If you entered this year, did you find the 500-word synopsis as difficult as I did (like trying to force a watermelon into a sandwich bag)?

When I finally had it at just under 500 words and submitted the form, I felt like I had put more work in than writing the novel had required!

@cupofsass Thank you, same to you!
            Is this your first time?
