I'm one of those kids who used to have my nose stuck in a book so often that I got very good at walking around without looking where I was going. Growing up, I was absolutely addicted to fantasy, and then one day, I had a craving for one particular story. I searched everywhere for it, but everything I found always had one element of my story, but not another. So I resolved to just write it myself, just so I could enjoy the story in some form or another. Thus, The New Neighbors was born.
As I grew up, what started as a "one-story thing" eventually evolved into an obsession. I started writing so many stories I could hardly keep track. I got involved in NaNoWriMo. I became a Municipal Liasion for NaNoWriMo. I took writing classes at school. I got on the editor board for my school's literary magazine. And eventually, I published my first book.
I don't intend to use Wattpad as a place to post "teasers." Being broke myself, I understand the value to a good free story. Rather, I'd like to use Wattpad in the way that makes the most sense to me - to post entire first drafts, get honest feedback on it from readers, and then use their comments to rewrite it much better and eventually publish the rewrites. I think there's also something great to being somewhat transparent about my process in this way. I know I would have loved to see some of the polished first passes of stories I loved back when I first got into writing.
Aside from all that, I live in the Pacific Northwest with my amazing spouse and two cats. I spoke at TEDxYout@Portland in 2014 about my journey being transgender and what that's taught me about finding myself. I also help co-produce coloring books with my spouse, which is not where I expected my life to go one day, but I love it all the same.
