I was born in Rio de Janeiro and knew I wanted to become a writer since I was a teenager. After traveling through South America, North Africa, Mexico and Europe in the 1960s, I settled in Brazil and wrote lyrics for Brazilian musicians. I wrote my first book, Hell Archives, in 1982. Four years later, I made the pilgrimage to Saint James of Compostella, a 500-mile road in northwestern Spain. My experiences there would become the basis of The Pilgrimage. I wrote The Alchemist, a story about a shepherd on a spiritual journey to the Egyptian pyramids looking for a treasure, the following year.

Since then I published a dozen books. You can see all titles in my Wikipedia page > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Coelho

I keep a blog (http://paulocoelhoblog.com/) that I update regularly.

. I haven't got to read much of your books until now sir, my first one was "The Alchemist" followed by "The Devil and Miss Prym" , "Eleven minutes" and then "The Zahir"! I know they are few in number, but they have changed the way i've been thinking about life drastically...and i feel lucky that i have still got the chance to know so many other masterpieces that you've craved!
Sir, you've written in your bio that you knew you wanted to write ever since you were a teenager...I love writing too! And i want to be a great writer as you in my future sir,...now i'm 16 years old and i'm a science student of grade 11...i don't know if i can ever give enough time for starting to write due to my busy schedule and tough courses...,but i also don't know why i'm reading science right now and not studying literature when all i ever want to become is a writer! i guess i'm stuck in a path of my life where i know what i want and still then don't have a clue what i'm gonna do! What do i need to do...i don't know!
So please sir,...if you ever get yourself to.reading this...can you please suggest me what i need to do? I really am stuck in "Carrier Crisis" when i'm gonna have to choose my destination, sir! I do not want my life getting spent for something only i can achieve and spend... i want it to be meaningful to the world...like yours!
      hoping for your kind reply...
      Thanking you...

OH MY GOD. It's like a dream come true. I think I am going to cry. oh my god. Last year I read Veronica Desides To Die. And that book changed me. It changed the way I looked at life. I guess all I can say is you have inspired me and have made me more ardent towards writing. I can never thank you enough. Thank you for being an inspiration. And thank you for being you. It's an honour sir, to be able to read your books. It's an honour.

Olá, boa tarde! Admiro muito seu trabalho e achei incrível te ver aqui no Wattpad, é uma honra saber que um escritor tão estimado usa essa rede social que alimenta tanto a comunicação leitor-escritor.

Last year I read Manuscript found in Acra and that changed my life. Actually, it changed my perspective of life; the way I was seeing the world. I always have this book around me, because when I have a problem, I read from it and I understand that I sometimes need to me alone, or I don't need to be angry, or that Love comes with loneliness.
Then, I found The Alchemist and it was a real bless, because I was going through a tough time.
The thing is that, even if I'm only 13 years old, your books had a special effect on me and on my vision of life.
      Thank you!
hello Sir Paulo,
The first book that started me to love reading again is The Alchemist, from that day forward, from that very first time I read the first page I started admiring you, your wisdom in your works, I love quoting you how your mind thinks and put those thoughts into words makes me realize that any man who writes conquers the world. you conquered me, my point of view in life...with that I am eternally greatful.
