I live in London and have a background in acting which I studied in Australia, graduating from QUT University in Brisbane. Since then I have acted in a variety of projects including Macbeth at the National Theatre of Luxembourg and Midsomer Murders for ITV in the UK. I was also lucky enough to be chosen by Sony Music to play the lead male opposite Portuguese Golden Globe & MTV award winner, Aurea, for her music video 'The only thing that I wanted'.
Many parents tell stories from their misspent youth, but one my father, John McSorley, often entertained us with is pretty remarkable. In 1964 he was the young British javelin champion, living in a flat in Twickenham just up the road from where I am now. His Australian friend, athlete Reg Spiers who he'd met at the 1962 Commonwealth Games, was staying with him. Reg was desperate to get home but didn't have money for a plane ticket, so he considered less conventional ways to get home. He hatched a plan to airfreight himself 13,000 miles. Dad built a large box and along with two other mates delivered Reg as a consignment to Heathrow Airport for a flight to Perth, Australia. His sixty-three hour journey was fraught with drama. Reg and his partner went on to become international fugitives and Reg ended up on death row in Sri Lanka.
Although very familiar with story telling, this is my first in the literary medium. To the many people who have listened to this true story anecdotally around the dinner table, thank you for all the encouragement to write this book.
I am pleased to announce that after initially posting it on
wattpad, 'Out of the Box' has been published by Roaring Forties press in the US and Hachette in Australia . It can be purchased from all major bookstores and is also available on kindle.
